He will probably get it..I have a waiting list of people for hardtops at 1200-1500 here in Washington state

I see hardtops all over the eastern part of the US going for $750 or thereabouts. In damn near perfect condition. One with this kind of structural damage for a grand is just asinine. It would cost you another 500 in time and materials to end up with a "repaired" top.

LA has more Jeeps and parts than anywhere. But most of the prices are just crazy. Id pay more for a Jeep here. Just for lack of rust.
 
Here in Arizona you’ll pay $1500 plus for a clean hard top.

sold mine for like $1400 with some major scratches in it... was listed for like 36 hours.

Just because he puts it up for 1000 doesn't mean he wouldn't take less, you never list it for your bottom price.

I find parts fairly easily but not always cheap. Here is a good solid hardtop for about $1000 in west Hollywood. I'm sure if you brought cash you can talk him down to $900. It's all about the negotiation.

Also where you look is important. Craigslist is closed to dead now. Everyone has shifted to selling on offer up and facebook market place. Ebay is good online space as well. Deals are usually 1st come 1st serve so staying top of listing can help score the deals.

I've always said if I could figure out a cost effective way to get truck loads of hard tops and doors here from the east coast I could make a killing
 
Where I'm at the going rate is $900-1200 for a hardtop that is in good condition.
LJ hard tops go for up around $2k.

You can find cracked, faded hardtops or ones that need a back window for &300-500.

It also depends on what time of the year it is here. Winter time the prices usually go up.
 
I practically gave away my near perfect white hard top for $800. I'm sort of wishing I hadn't. Oh well.
