    Different Reason for Inaccurate Speedometer

Over the last 7 years owning my TJ, I have fought getting the speedometer to read accurately even after swapping in what should have been the correct speedo gear after changing tire size. Most recently, I swapped new axles (4.10s) into the Jeep. I also installed the corresponding speedo gear...

    Dana 35 spider gears chipped

Picked up a Dana 30 and 35 with 4.10 gearing recently to swap out my axles with 3.07 gearing. Cost was $500 + $120 in fuel to buy them. Opened up the Dana 35 and noticed chips out of 2 teeth on one of the spider gears. Other spider gears look mostly ok with some pitting in 2 other teeth. Ring and...

Cruise Control and Clutch Safety Switch

Since buying my Jeep 6 years ago, the factory cruise control has never worked. Yes, I have verified this is the case by testing it on the highway. I have been reading through old threads on this issue and have not yet found a solution. When I start the Jeep, there is no flash of the “cruise”...

Speedometer Off After Changing Speedo Gear

I currently have 3.07s and a 26 tooth speedo gear. If it says I’m going 40 I’m going closer to 30.

Speedometer Off After Changing Speedo Gear

I realize this post is a few months old now, but I had a little more time to look things over. I re-checked that the gear ratio is 3.07 by jacking up the tires and counting driveshaft rotations. Also, I measured the diameter of the tires (when they were on the ground) and they were closer to...

    How to Remove the Grille

Yes I suppose that would work. I’m just lucky enough the have a self-evacuating feature to my Jeep so I didn’t think twice about it.

    How to Remove the Grille

The grille on my TJ was damaged when I bought it from a minor collision the PO had, so I recently decided to remove it and replace it with a straight used one. I couldn’t find any write-ups when I started researching how big of a task this was, so I decided to make one after tackling the...

Speedometer Off After Changing Speedo Gear

Thanks for the advice. Could you give me your reasoning behind choosing a 31 tooth gear?

Sagging Tailgate - Loose Body Seam?

I had/have the same thing with my Wrangler. I believe the same thing was going on that you described as far as previous carnage with the former owner. I also believe you are correct about the spot welds from the inside. The "body man" and I decided to just use a couple of heavy sheet metal...

Speedometer Off After Changing Speedo Gear

I know this issue has come up on the forum before, but I have tried some of the solutions and thought processes to remedy it and I'm still unsure. I am working on correcting the speedometer. My TJ has 3.07 gears and 32-inch tires. I have verified this ratio by checking the tags and turning the...

    Strange Clunking Noise

You were indeed correct about the control arm bushings. I changed them this weekend. The passenger-side rear control arm had a bushing that wasn't even pressed into the arm anymore. The clunking noise has now seemingly disappeared.

    Strange Clunking Noise

I have not replaced any lately. I think they are original, and the bushings don't look too good. I hope to replace them soon though.

    Strange Clunking Noise

I didn't lurch too hard, that's for sure. Unfortunately, I'm over 250 miles from the Jeep right now because I'm at school. I'm going to have my brother take a look and I'll report what I find out.

    Strange Clunking Noise

Thanks, everybody. I've replaced the transmission mount and the rear sway bar bushings on the axle over the last few days. I think I'll have somebody bounce on the front bumper and see what is going on when I get a chance. I was stopped on a smooth and paved uphill incline the other day and let...
