Early TJ Ash Tray Switch and Gauge Panel

It has been a common thread here to discuss ways of replacing the early TJ ash tray with paneling for switches or gauges. I’m here to let y’all know about an ebay seller who is making custom printed resin panels that can be made to your order. The product is smooth and well formed. His original...

    Smaller Diameter Rear Shocks

Howdy. Things are tight in my TJ's back end. GenRight extended range tank, larger cast iron diff cover (diff turned up to match angle with the double cardan rear shaft), Banks Monster exhaust. I've just found that the Banks pipe is too close to my right rear Rancho RS55240 shock. A smaller...

TJ Speed Sensor Connector Pin Configurations

I’ve run into this issue as part of my tranny swap. The official word is that early TJs had speed sensor connectors in a three round pin configuration, but this was soon changed to three flat pins. My Jeep, made in late January 2000, came with round pins. The sensor shipped with the rebuilt 231...

P030n Misfires and RPM Valve Rotation

Some time ago, I was part of a discussion here concerning engine misfires with codes P030n. I stated that my long time practice had been to clear incipient misfires and rough idling by revving the engine above 3200 RPM in order to rotate the valves. Almost always, a few seconds above 3200 have...

    3550 fall down, go boom

Last week, I bought a gallon of Red Line MTL, just to have on hand. It has worked beautifully for years in my NVG3550 5 speed, factory installed in my 2000 TJ. Last Tuesday, I junked the BFG AT/KO3 tires in favor of new Falken Wildpeaks. Thursday, 2 days later, I heard a bang down low and had...

Replacement Lug Nuts for Alcoa Wheels

I have run Alcoa Mickey Thompson forged aluminum Challenger wheels on my TJ for nearly 20 years. Long out of production. The lug nuts were specials, hollow and outside threaded for the chromed plastic nut covers. Handsome when installed, very rare now. I have lost some covers and others are...

    Odometer Mileage Reduced

OK, you guys make a good case for the obvious, that the mileage had been mislogged before. I like to deliver straight lines now and then, so that's it for now. Thank ye kindly.

    Odometer Mileage Reduced

Howdy, Jeepers. My 2000 4.0 TJ has been in shop jail a bunch of times in the last year. Recently, I fired my old shop and found a really good one. Also, recently, I got an oil change and noted that the mileage logged for the last change was about 1500 miles higher than that shown on my odometer...

    Spare tire carrier

My BFG 31's have been on the stock spare mount for many years, but on wheels with reduced back spacing, so I did have to shim out the snubbers. The third brake light barely peeked over the tire and, eventually, I put a half inch spacer under the light tower to give it a bit more air over the...

Testing a few new Overland Outfitters and Auxbeam products

Thanks for the heads up, Jeff. I got on the site, requested a catalog and ordered a pair of tactical roll bar buddies. Most of my TJ roll bar real estate is already festooned with pouches and such, but, ya never know, these things might work better, or perhaps in another vehicle.

Gas cans / auxiliary fuel container

My path won't work for all of y'all, but my Jeep is 22 years old and I will drive it until they take my keys, so that justifies modding it as I like, hang the cost. I installed a GenRight long range fuel tank, of welded aluminum and with a steel skid plate. 24.5 gallons, for an increase over the...

Cleaning sticky air bag / horn cover

One detailer used something called Stoner Trim Shine (Yeah, I know. Had they asked me, I'd have suggested 'Wanker Wipes'). A good scrub using microfiber cloth worked wonders on all interior hard surfaces, including the sticky air bag cover. A film of mold on the hard top interior wiped right...

In search of a fold-down tailgate table for a TJ

Mine has been installed for 10 years now and the design has likely changed. I removed the plastic cover and secured the open brake wires with 2" aluminum body tape, which matches the table finish pretty well and greatly reduces the bulk of the covering. Good choice on the Outback, I treasure mine.

    Original Owners

I ordered my 2000 TJ after annoying the dealership for months. Took delivery in Feb 2000, with 16 miles on the odo. 204K now. Original 4.0 engine, 3550 tranny and TC. The Dana 44 rear was embargoed when I placed the order, but finally got it put in about 10 years ago. Gonna be buried in it.

    2000 TJ Tailgate Gap

A Mopar liftgate lower seal will not fit that aftermarket top and rear gate. You will have to fab something from bulb seal trim to go on your lower edge.
