Barnes Bolt On Skid vs 3" Drop Skid

You also might be able to cut, overlap and bolt it together.
This worked for me. You can also drill a new hole in the transfer case shift bracket to get the cross bar level so it works nicely too. Like anything there are plenty of little things to work out.

I have a body lift and tcase shifters are atlas type So thinking it may be a plug and play deal for me.

If you are going to go through the hassle of swapping skids, buy once, cry once and get as much clearance as possible. My old beater yj has 21” to the skid with 33’s

In progress of panting. I'll measure before and after tomorrow. I just have to top coat after the self etching primer of today.

It's not always that simple. My skid is missing 3 of the 6 bolt holes. A stock skid is 2x a barns skid. I don't forsee having to change much. If I did I tuck I'd have to buy a body lift, mml, adjust the exhaust, clearance the tub, buy new drive shafts. It ends up way more expensive.

At this point, I think my main concern is how far the exhaust system moves up. Your '97 auto and my '05 manual have very different OEM skids, and may have very different exhaust systems, so comparison may be difficult.

But measurements of that Barnes skid would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe at some point. Right now it’s not possible. My 4” springs run a bit tall and my dual tcase set up runs about 1.5” longer than stock.
For now I will gladly take the low gear selection over the clearance. Especially with an SE. would love to have a flat belly but dont think I could get there with my setup.

If you could measure how far it hangs below the frame I would appreciate it.
My stock skid is so bent up this one may actually lower my trans mount height. Lol
