I have been looking and reading notes (and watching YT videos) for how to replace my fan clutch. Well, remove it...

Everything I'm seeing shows the big bolt, special tool version. My 97 TJ does not have that setup... Straight six, etc...

What am I missing!

Earlier years had a different style that don't involve the one big bolt. Looks like you got the nuts off. Give it a whack. Wrong forum btw.

Thanks for the info. So this may be an early TJ - at least an earlier Wrangler setup. Where the nuts are that is a cap on the water pump pully? I tapped on it with a large punch but not hard. BTW found a paper copy of the 97 service manual a few years ago and it wasn't clear either.

The only nuts/bolts left are the 4 holding the fan to the clutch. Those aren't holding the clutch or the pulley on though. Tap the back of the fan/clutch assembly with a mallet or something to pop out free. Then of course you'll need to remove the belt if you want to remove the pulley.

10-4, thanks again.

Thank you. Hit it solid with a 2 lb and oak shaft as I spun the pulley several times. Looked like a hint of a crack between the pulley and clutch and put an old wood chisel in place. That opened it up finally.

Thank you!
