Hey guys, had my axles out and rear end taken apart. (Rear Dana 44) and while inspecting my spider gears notice they’re a bit chipped up. Not realizing I had a Trac-Lok I used my dremel to grind down the ring gear to get the center pin out to change the spider gears only to realize they don’t budge then it all hit me (D’oh!)

So now I have chipped spider gears and a dremeled ring gear.

I know this won’t be cheap or easy but what are my options for replacing? Would like to keep it cheap as possible

Looks like Dana 707115X comes with a loaded carrier?

Could I just get that guy^ press new bearings on, install new ring gear on it and put that in? Without changing the pinion and not having to adjust anything? pinion looks great still inside currently and when I opened the diff there wasn’t metal shavings in there so clearly it has been like this for a while with not much.

Above is my ideal option or I can get the new carrier (loaded) new ring gear and pinion and take it to a local axle/diff shop an have them install.

I don’t off road too extreme or too often so a true trac or other locker isn’t really wanted but if the cost difference is negligible I could consider it.

Can I swap to an open diff? If I change carrier and internals?

Ahhhh this threw a wrench in my whole overhaul!

But thanks y’all!!

Include pics of the spider gears and I have video of the pinion. Don’t have a pic of the ring gear but it’s got about a tooth and a half dremeled just enough to squeeze the pin out. Thanks !
