I replaced my PCM with the one from WranglerFix and on the same day the check engine light came on with a P0016 code (camshaft position sensor for bank 1 does not correlate to the signal from the crankshaft position). It could just be a coincidence that it happened on the same day. I did some Googling and discovered that OPDA is a common issue with 2005-2006 Wranglers. I don't know if the previous owner replaced the OPDA and if the original sensor was used. Part #689-201 refers to a Dorman unit so I have to assume that the OPDA was replaced. All the YT videos say to use an original sensor, but how can I tell?
Without knowing the history behind it, should I replace it again?

When you say replace it again. Do you mean the sensor or the OPDA? The OPDA if it’s been replaced should. Not need replacing again.

The sensor, yes leaving original is siggested. If you don’t know, search here on which ones they suggest.

I mean to replace both... OPDA with Crown and sensor with Mopar's.

New MOPAR sensors aren't the same as the originals.

Check to see if the hold down bolt is loose. The OPDA may simply have rotated slightly.

And since the OPDA was replaced by the previous owner, it's possible you may have cam gear wear chewing up the new OPDA gear. Only way to check that is to pull the OPDA and inspect.

Nothing wrong with the Dorman units, I have put 155K mi on my Dorman unit, no issues.

After a couple of days of driving with a new PCM, the engine light suddenly turned off. Is it possible that the new PCM needed some time to read all the vitals?

Oh, I was not aware of that. The reviews on Amazon were positive.

That's the crank sensor, not the cam sensor in the link.

The new MOPAR cam sensors aren't the same as the originals were. Some have thrown codes just like the aftermarket ones.

I don't know if the dorman unit (what you have) is widely known to have this failure, but I have heard a few times the dorman isn't quite as good as the crown. This is the Dorman OPDA out of a local guy's rig. There should not be any gap between the gear and housing. It would be worth just taking those top two torx bolts out, pull the cap, and pull up on the tone ring to make sure it's not moving vertically more than a minuscule amount.

Yeah, I've seen pics of that. I've checked mine several times to verify the thrust washer is not wearing. I don't have a clue as to why some of them wore away. Just did an oil analysis at 250K as well. No high metals in the sample.

Oopsie-daisy  I ordered the wrong sensor 🤦‍♂️ - so the originals can be only ordered from the dealer?

Thank you for the picture. Are you referring to this gap?

There's a whole thread on them on one forum. I know they had some success with one of the NAPA sensors. The Dorman one in my Dorman OPDA has worked fine. Seems to be hit or miss.
