I just purchased my first wrangler, it's a 2002. It currently does not have the carpet, vinyl or anything covering the floor. I wanted to coat it with a liner, but am unsure of which one holds up and won't cause rusting issues (there is amazingly no rust on it). I've read about herculiner and rustoleum products, how well do they hold up to abuse? Any other recommendations?

Yes- you may want to hold off on a paint or spray on- it bakes and gets hard to clean, is loud and hot- some noico or similar mat is nice to keep it quietened down first- bed rug is light, cleanable synthestic carpet that dries fast, bed tred is basically molded to fit bed liner- @Hog has bedrug and I have bedtred in my 04 rear- Pretty cool - acc carpet is nice but if you shop, these may run a good bit less. First pic is bedtred. Bedrug is the 2nd.

I'm not worried about the sound as much as I am with heat transfer. Which one did you like better, the bedtred or bedrug?

I will advise to stay away from bedliner, after few floods my floor was rusting from the inside. Then it was a weekend worth of scraping liner off and doing damage control.

Carpet is the only thing that will keep heat and cold away, and will add noise insulation. During summer metal gets very hot, during winter it gets very cold.
Liner will not make any difference to that. If you are okay with that, just find a good paint and give it a coat.
As far as carpet, you have option of OEM like fabric or Bedrug made out of foam. Both do a great job at insulating, but Bedrug will not stink when it gets wet. Jeep has a very good heater, in combination with hot firewall/ transmisison tunnel, wet carpet dries fast.

I think @AndyG has a picture of my interior, I think he put factory back in mine.

I know I like it better than any bed liner I have had in past Jeeps I owned.

I can’t say yet- not enough time-

I can see bedtred letting water sit below - but is can be lifted up or yanked out- it does remind me of the old CJ floor covering and what is used in work trucks- you can tell it is tough stuff.

The bedrug is likely to show less, dry fast throughout and hold up very well. I have some bedrug to go in front- its on my list when it warms up.

@Hog found some good deals on line for us.

Its ACC ‘s baseline product- deep on my phone somewhere. Looks really nice- just get your color right- their restock fee kills ya.

Decided to go with the bedtred, only ordered the front for right now, will order the rest next paycheck. Thanks again for the sound advice. I didn't want carpet originally, but this is a great alternative. She's a work in progress and I will put pics up when I get it in

Do you have seats in the back?
If not, I have put puzzle workout mat in the back of mine, covered with original carped. Cheap and effective.

Let's see before and after pics, we like seeing things evolve!

I enjoy having carpet now. A lot less noise!!!!!!!!

In my Sport I put an anti-fatigue mat in the rear seat area, it was ok but nothing like carpet.

i pulled the oem carpet out of my jeep when i bought it and replaced it with the bed tread. i really like it.

The first time I got my hands on it I was like man this stuff is very much like we used to get in the CJ series- Pretty much ideal for a vehicle destined to see a lot of dirt and water-

And not to sound redundant but in addition to functional the stuff really looks fantastic and it makes the jeep interior look really nice and finished.

Finally got the bedtred in. Easy install. Yes I know I didn't have to remove the seats, I had to fix the floor pans first and it's just easier with everything out of the way. Plus side, I've become proficient at drilling out bolts without damaging threads
