That looks very promising

I think so as well, so much so that I bit, or will be tomorrow officially. If it is what it appears to be, I'm not sure if I'll find a better looking underbelly. Everything else is gravy if it's structurally sound.

The wheels and tires are likely to leave it, for starters, and I'm fixin' for a hardtop as well. But my main mission after getting it legally inspected and registered in the PRoMD is looking into doing what I can to keep that frame in good nick for the long haul. (y)

The Texas one has a drain hole added to the frame bottom in the front (didn't see one in the rear)

I didn't catch that before you said, but you're spot on. I was hyper-focused on everything else that's been an issue. One less thing I need to do.(y)

Just occurred to me that I didn't post a photo of the Texas unit...so a teaser...

Unless I would get wider fender flares, I don't think the wheel/tire combo will pass the MD mech/safety inspection. Pondering re-wheeling options at the moment...

Color was the least of my worries though this was the third black CC I checked out in a row. Not my first choice but I think it will grow on me. The way it looks now I should name it "Vader"... :D

I've been a fan of Jeeps for decades but never had one (friends and family have) and been searching for an LJ for over a year now. Looks like I've finally popped my Jeep cherry! I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy this experience.

After you've gotten a good look inside the frame, consider Eastwood's Internal Frame Coating or Fluid Film to keep the evil rust man at bay.

Is true, but it's nice to see the turnout here, lots of folks willing to share their experiences and advice. Seems like the frame rot thing has touched a lot of owners and a lot of Jeeps. The designers of that frame really screwed the pooch...
 
That "drain hole" is actually the hole where the Auto Trans skid plate goes. Since its a manual, it's left blank without a riv-nut.

Ah...good catch. So, is it safe to say that MT frames have a better chance of not rusting (at least the front half) than AT frames?
