Nashville TJ's Build - Continued

Cool. So Hemi and LS are good in flops!

4.0: Upside down, I had to pull the plugs both times due to being hydro locked due to the oil. Smoked the rest of the day. The second time it was upside down we actually pulled the plugs and blew out the oil, then reinstalled the plugs, and then it sucked in the oil that was in the intake so we had to pull the plugs again!! It was a 100 deg July day at Choccolocco and I was spent after that recovery. I have flopped onto the side a few times and it was a non-issue, just right side, fire and go.

While we are on the subject, here are a few more pictures of the recovery.

Being a wheeler is it going to be fixed 100%? Or pull it out a bit

I generally fix things I break on the rig as close to 100% as I can - we’ll see how this goes.

On a side note your and @JMT's wives spoke and you don't get to hang out anymore.apparently you are bad influences on each other!

I think if I ever meet Jeremy’s wife in person, I may have to be careful to stay out of her reach…

😬

The Offroad Hub dude just blew his Toyota 4.0L V6 engine, just from being on a 40 degree incline, not even a flop:

I thought the FlexRocksandRollover guy has serious issues with his Hemi after a roll. Might had been more to it.

...back from Moab. First order of business was to clean off all the Kansas bugs on the Jeep and the tow pig - I bet we picked up two pounds of bug guts...

And now the damage report.

First up - bent front passenger lower control arm. We did this in of all places - Top of the World. But we are not sure when it happenned.

My lower rear control arms are 2.25" x 3/8" wall Chromoly, and at first I was thinking the front were the same. But they are not - these are 2" x .250 wall DOM - which actually makes me feel better. I had upgraded the rear the last time I bent one of those.

So, the fix here will be to go with the larger, chromo tube. At current steel prices, that should cost no more than about $14,000.00.....

Well. I just ordered the chromo tubing to replace the front lower control arms. It was actually a bit tough to find - no one stocks it. Right at $1,000 total for two 3' sticks shipped to my house. So, I told my wide I saved $13,000... :)

What about wide open design in Murfreesboro? Or do they only have aluminum.

Why not alloy over chromo?

Not sure I understand your question: The chromoly I picked up - and also used for my rear control arms - is 4130 Alloy Steel.

I was able to easily find mild steel DOM in that size - and about half the cost - but the stronger 4130 stuff was much harder to find.

Why not run aluminum arms instead of steel?

Ahhhhhh, gotcha. Steel is an alloy as well, hence my confusion. I actually gave aluminum some thought, but as I said I enjoy making my own stuff, and I don't have the machinery to properly bore an aluminum link for a joint.

My wife would love you Jeff. It’s my fault for not listening. 🤦‍♂️ I’m all back together though. GR a-Pillar armor arrives tomorrow. When I paint the corners I’ll paint them too.

Make sense. I’ll prob go aluminum or alum slugged dom. My rear lowers are almost 40” long.
