Dogs

I spent a couple of days with my girls about an hour away. We'd be lost without them after 7 wonderful years.

3 kids 2 dogs. Arguably too many of each depending on the day. Both dogs are rescues, and I filled out more paperwork and references to rescue a dog then I did to have 3 kids.

Re the main point, my dogs don’t come to restaurants or stores and have a 3 bark limit when they are outside before they get brought inside (primary chores for the kids are feed/water/let dogs in/out)

I like dogs. Not a fan of cats.

But I get tired of hearing excuses from pet owners that can’t do this or that because of their pet.

Even worse I had a kid I was interviewing that was all set to come into the office for an in person interview. He contacted me, the day before, and said he forgot he had to watch his sister’s dog and wanted to change the date. I told him the interview is only a couple hours and I had people scheduled to meet with him so no. I never heard from him again. He’d been unemployed since he graduated 4 months earlier and I was offering a really good opportunity for him.

At least our snakes only get fed every couple weeks.

We had dogs when the kids were home. Dogs teach them good life lessons. While I love dogs our lifestyle is not conducive to having one. It’s like having a 2yr old. They need more attention than we can give them. We travel too much. I have some friends who have 2 dogs and they can’t go anywhere without them because they tear up the house. Even when they go shopping one has to stay in the truck with the dogs. I have 6 shop cats that are working cats. I have no issues with gophers, rats or mice. I can leave for a month and just leave food and water for a week and have one of the kids come by and refill as necessary.

The difference between cats and dogs:
When you feed a dog it will look up at you and say to himself; “ Wow he gives me food he must be God”.
When you feed a cat it will look up at you and say; “Wow he gives me food I must be God”.

My observations of dog owners is that they are very often yelling at their dog(s) to be quiet. I have never felt the need to yell at any cat I have had in my world. That tells me enough about dog ownership.

I kinda feel the same way about kids….

Plus, with a dog, an electronic collar is considered a legitimate training tool. Try to use on on a kid? Yeah, that’s jail time!

I’ve had cats…not a cat person. Their biggest benefit is that the are convenient and self reliant. However, I get real tired of them trying to kill me every time I’m on the stairs of my house. I’m clumsy enough, you evil, devil thing.

I have fish now. Once the last dog leaves, I'm sticking with the fish. I have an automated feeder and can leave them for weeks.

Kenneling a dog for our two week vacation was stupid expensive.

My dog only really went to Home Depot/Tractor Supply as a puppy. Being the breed he is, socialization is necessary and it payed off.

He lives inside and somehow convinced us he can sleep on the couch when we are gone... It's mildly a pain having a dog, but we have found we have friends that will stay and house/dog sit reasonably cheap.

I grew up with dogs and cats. Currently have 3 dogs, which is probably one dog too many.

I have 3 kids. During covid times, they had to do remote schooling and we're getting pretty down. I ended up getting a boxer puppy to make things interesting. This worked out well because my oldest was getting depressed and the boxer really cheered him up.

We have a dog door so they can go in and out as they please. They spend most of the time inside. Though our large golden doodle like to spend time outside at night or whenever it's cool outside.

I really don't understand how some keep their dogs outside 100% of the time. Maybe if they're working dogs on a farm, but not for a regular house.
