Hello All...
New here... I'm hoping this is the right place to post my question. I have a 2006 Jeep TJ, 2.4L with 6-speed manual, with about 96k miles on it. A little while ago (4-weeks) it developed a miss. Then that developed into a no-crank/no start situation. Testing seemed to indicate the Engine Control Module was inop, so I replaced it. After that it started and ran just fine. I have put about 500 miles on it since the ECM was replaced with no issues. Yesterday I ran a few errands in the Jeep, parked it, came out to run another errand about an hour later... and crank, but no start. Today, after checking some fuses and such, I shot a squirt of starting fluid in the intake... and it fired off (till the starting fluid ran out). So... obviously my issue is fuel related.
Question... in short, where to start. Is there an easy way to test if the fuel pump is getting power (fuse is good (power to both sides with key on), and swapped fuel relay with another relay and no change. The tank has 15+ gallons of fuel in it so dropping the tank is a last resort for me. Some say I should be able to hear if the pump is running, but I have never heard the pump run, even when the jeep was running fine. Also, is the fuel pump controlled in any way by the ECM ? If so, can I test to see if it is supplying power to the pump ? At this point I am leaning (gut instinct) on the ECM... it was a Re manufacture unit from Rileys Auto Parts. If the fuel pump is running, the ECM triggers the injectors, so if its a fuel issue I guess there a good chance its the ECM. But I need to check if the pump has power first I think. Any thoughts ???
Thanks...
