What did you do to your TJ today?

Not today but yesterday….. Got it dirty!

Which table is that?
Did you have to cut the cover for the lock mechanism?

I had to notch the plastic cover I also had to cut the cover for the third break-light in half, bend the attachment tab for the screw, and drill a new attachment hole.

The table is a Universal Trailgater from Outback Adventure.

A little maintenance that I've been putting off for 3 years ...valve cover gasket.

Went ahead and cleaned the cover up real good too, before installing new grommets and CCV elbows and orifice.

The heat shield under the injectors was crumbling so I'm at a standstill until the new one is delivered tomorrow.

All back together with the new heat shield and some more parts cleaned up. Just in time to take it back apart (in a different area) for the water pump, thermostat, fan clutch, and hoses.

Just did this, actually everything but the heater core. Finished it off with a new tensioner, idler and Fleetrunner belt. A worthy investment for confidence in the reliability of one's vehicle. (y)

About to do this myself, Rock Auto cart is full of stuff. Lucky me, PO did the heater core and AC compressor within last 5k. So the rest of the cooling system is due now.

Considering an alternator and starter at the same time to increase my feelings of reliability.

Dropped my corner armor, half doors, hood shroud, and a few other "odds and ends" off for paint. I'm very excited to have found a very capable rod and custom shop just ten miles from my house, literally out in the middle of nowhere! There were hot rods galore in various states of build - all built by hand.

I finally got a call that my parts were done. I stopped by to see everything on the way home from work today, and it is absolutely stunning. They rebuilt the half doors by hand (rusty pinch welds and a few dents), meeting my high expectations. However, the bill was embarrassingly steep. I didn't ask for an estimate because I wanted it done right. It was done right, but ouch, writing that check stung a bit. I can't wait to get the parts back on the LJ!

Of course, the county decided to seal coat our road this week, so it's covered in loose pea gravel currently. I have to trailer it home, and there is a back way that's a little less gravel, so I guess I'll take the long way home (thank you, REO Speedwagon!)

Not sure if luck like that can be measured. ;)

Did the alternator with a power cable refresh and a new starter is on the checklist. Functional items removed become spares or for a fellow Jeep friend in a pinch.

I've only had mine a couple of months and, while clearly in decent shape as-purchased, it's a bit of an unknown quantity as a result. Doing my best to eliminate the unknown wherever I can.

What alt did you go with and where did you pick up that slick cable assy?

I think there are a number of options out there for the power cables, both the alternator and cables I used came from K Suspension. Pleased with the quality thus far, no issues to report. I already had the mil spec battery terminals, I think they're offered as an option with the cable kit.

Which fan clutch are you going to install?

Trying out the Hayden 2771. currently running the 2791 and I hate it. It starts off locked and has to warm up before it will disengage. On a warm Oklahoma morning I can get about six blocks with it roaring before it finally settles down...in Colorado last year I could engine brake down a mountain pass for two hours straight, riding the thermostat at 188F (slow, but nonexistent heat load) and it would be locked and screaming the entire time.

What's both hilarious and infuriating is that the fan clutch has a patent number embossed on it, for a design that claims specifically to avoid locked starts.
