Alright, so I have a thread going and I just picked up a turbo kit from another jeep guy locally that was working well. He didn’t have ac and I do and would like to keep it. I’m sure some of you fine gents have seen this issue with the clutter on the passenger side of the engine. Thought you might give me some ideas on routing before I start working it out. What say ye?

'97-'99 is completely different from '00+. The A/C compressor moved from the passenger side to the driver side in '00. You might want to look at what the XJ dudes are doing. That will be more similar to your '98.

I think I’m going to go to a boostwerks exhaust manifold and start from there. Much cleaner install that way I believe.

I have seen those used on the XJs, but not on a TJ that I can recall. It would be interesting to see how it fits.

I don't see why someone doesn't make a custom exhaust manifold and intake manifold... exhaust straight into a turbo flange and right out into a relocated throttle body and custom intake. With all the real estate the intake and exhaust manifolds take up you'd think you could fit a snail.

The exhaust manifold I mentioned from boostwerks is a turbo specific manifold for the .4.0. I have not seen an intake manifold for forced induction 4.0’s but I’ll bet someone has them. I think I am going to use a top mount intercooler as well. Then cut a small scoop into the hood to draw air through it. I’ve been in the diesel world for a lot of years and the top mounts end up being just as efficient at reducing heat as a front mount when apples to apples are compared. Plus, I think it would look cool. Ha!

Well, I have one on order. It seems like an elegant solution to getting this turbo in the TJ. And certainly more cosmetically pleasing than the turbo pipe going all over the place.

Definitely post some pics when you get it mounted.

Oh I jumped into this one with both feet. Picked up a water to air intercooler as well for this “temporary” setup. I better hate this damn thing or I may need a loan.

Quick question? Where can I pull a pressurized oil line from on the drivers side? I need to provide oil pressure to the turbo, I don’t want to go over the top of the engine or under it to the oil filter or sending unit but where else can I pull it?

The only spot that works well is the oil pressure sensor. You could use a tee and go back over the bellhousing behind the head. That would probably be the cleanest.

That’s what I had in mind as my last resort. I have a braided supply line that is long enough I think to work. I didn’t know if I was missing something on the drivers side that would give me a shorter run.

Unfortunately, there is no oil supply on the drivers side. On the passengers side there is only the sending unit or the oil filter if you are willing to run a spacer.
