OEM speaker pods

Those are not OEM pods, your TJ came with 4x6 speakers up front. Go with 4x6 to 5.25" adapter plates, those Polk 5.25" speakers would be a superb choice up front. You can mount Polk's 6.25" speakers in the pods above your head, you'll just need to use self-tapping wood screws to secure them in place.

Crutchfield likely has the adapter connectors. Just make sure the black leads from the adapters connect to the same side of the speaker connectors for all four speakers. Like placing the black leads on the left side speaker lugs, the white leads on the right side speaker lugs. That will keep all four speakers in phase with each other so they're working together instead of some being 180 degrees out of phase which will noticeably degrade the sound quality.

Not all TJs came with 4x6 speakers in the dash. Many came with OEM pods with 4" midranges and 1" tweeters. It all depends on the year and option package. But as already stated in the thread, those are Select Increments pods and not OEM.

My '97 and '04 both came with 4x6 in the dash, what models came with 4" and 1" tweeters?

At a minimum, any '02 and newer model with the optional 7 speaker stereo. Both my '02 and my '05 were equipped this way from the factory, here's a snippet from my '05 build sheet:

Those are Infinity speakers too. They actually sound really good and bassy if you get on ear level with them.

Unfortunately, the factory locations essentially replicate setting up speakers in random locations in a barn and hoping for the best.

The tweeters roll off a bit early, but I prefer these OEM pods with a tweeter replacement to an aftermarket 5.25" speaker in the Select Instrument Pods for full range use. I need to record some demos and show the difference that some of the more common options make and highlight the shortcomings of our platform and why some of the aftermarket "fixes" work in certain circumstances but actually degrade sound quality in others.

Have you ever been through this thread? Very interesting take on directing sound.

I like them too, but I had to add them in as my TJ came with the basic system. I really can only hear them when I fade to the front, as I still have the crappy speakers in the sport bar, and can't turn those up without distortion...
