Only 51k to go! That's pretty low mileage, impressive.
Mileage and condition is why I bought it, but it had some hidden issues that I have now taken care of. And 51k more will take a while! The fix for the headgasket issue is pretty well known now and I don't see it as a showstopper unless maybe you got a higher mileage car and realized after buying that it needed that fix 2 years ago that the PO neglected/postponed.
I ideally wanted an 03-08 Forester (love the looks) but the 01-02s are mostly the same mechanically, with the older and simpler body/interior. With used cars, you take what you can find unless you want to keep looking which can be very draining by itself.
