Help identifying this dash part

2005 LJ....pulling the dash to replace the heater core and when I pulled the dash back this part fell down. Any idea what it is and what it does? I dont yet know how it actually goes back...thats tomorrow.

A brace that bolts up to the back of the stereo ? I recall seeing something similar in that area.

just throw it away. it was a anti-theft thing that bolted on the back of the factory radio. start watching this video at the 3 minute mark and hell show how to remove it !

I thought it was for support and grounding.
Mostly support since it's a Jeep.
The factory radios are heavier than most aftermarket ones.

I've always heard it was for anti-theft. I've never seen one hooked back up after that 10mm nut has been removed . have you ?

Anti-theft only in the fact that it's a pain in the ass to get to it.
Also why nobody puts it back on.
I would assume most are on till an aftermarket radio is installed.

well if it was easy to remove it wouldn't be a good anti-theft device would it ? and if anyone removes the factory radio for a reason other than to replace it they still don't get put back on. either way he said he has a aftermarket radio it's not needed !
