Tell me about your stones

I like Gerber Knives. For the price you can’t beat them. I have several of their pocket knives.

I have a couple of the green river/Russell knives that I built. I really like them and are great for quartering deer and even processing them at home.

So... like how the dudes that only drive forest service roads don't need lockers... cutting meat from Walmart just doesn't justify needing a good knife

Exactly, I do not rock crawl so why do I need a 4” spring and an1.25” body lift on 40s? We each have our special needs and desires. We spend our hard earned money on what makes us happy. For the record I do not eat Walmart Meat. I buy large pieces from Costco and cut them into portions for the wife and I then vacuum seal and freeze.

Yeah, I'm just not a hunter I guess. FWIW I am not ecstatic about shopping at Walmart but it's that or drive an hour 10mins to Costco... or shop at the local grocery store that sells milk at 6.80 a gallon. Not a fan of walmart but ya do what you gotta do

You need to find someone to sell you beef.

What’s a side of beef these days? At least $4 a pound I would think. Hard to find any beef around here for less than $7/lb. 120# will pay for a new freezer. We do not eat a lot of beef these days. Mainly pork and chicken. When beef roasts go on sale at our local store I stock up and grind my own hamburger. Vacuum seal and freeze it. Only 2 of use at home so we are not as bad off as families with kids. But I make more meals from scratch now.

I can’t recall what we paid last time but I believe it was under $5/lb

I like a good carbon steel blade to butcher or slice meat with, I can get them scarry sharp and keep them sharp easy.

I have a stainless Hen and Rooster that is a pain in the butt to sharpen, I use a radda wheel for it.

Good knives rust! I stop sharpening when my pocket knife and kitchen knives easily shave the hair on the back of my hand.

I have an old stone that was my great grandpas. No idea what grit, but it is what i use for the final edge

My last full beef I think was $4.60/lb, maybe even a touch less. Sure beats the $7/lb ground beef at the store. I have an old high school friend that I buy from, he lives 5 hours away but its good quality grass-fed beef.

Ours come from a local butcher, they are pasture raised and then finished on grain for the fat marbling. We get to let ours hang for 30 days before they cut it up.

Man it's good stuff!!!

Knives and broadheads I sharpen with a file. Good enough to cut a steak and get pass throughs.

I file hoes lawnmower blades and axes with a file. I finish axes on a wet wheel. Machetes are done on wet wheel. I’m OCD when it comes to knives wet stone and leather strop. If I’m butchering I also keep a sharp edge by using a knife steel. I bought a couple of 12” wet stones from an online restaurant supplier. Still looking for a larger stone like the one I broke.
