Indoor propane space heater

If you just want to warm your person you want to get "radiant" or "infrared" heat, these work very well for that, but again only in well ventilated areas.

I use one when working outdoors. The point is, if you're trying to heat a large space it takes a lot of btu and you will need ventilation free btus, but heating just your person with adaquate ventilation makes it easier (and cheaper)

I have the dual version of this heater. Was using it last weekend in my 500 sq ft garage and my wife commented on the fumes when she came in. I try to run it for a couple of hours to heat up the garage, then turn it off for an hour. I use this cycle to try and maintain the heat when I am working. The process works pretty well, but having the uninsulated walls it cools down too fast.

Anyone have this one or something similar? My concern is smell and moisture. I don't see anything in the reviews about odor. Thanks in advance

I had one, sold it last year for a propane torpedo tube (80,000btu, heats garage up in about 10 minutes, then I turn it off), but I wish I had the Mr Heater Buddy back. I'll be buying another one. I'll be looking for a bigger one if they make them. I don't remember smelling anything or having moisture problems.

Here's the double burner, 18000BTU version that I have.

I have a ductless propane heater on a 20# tank that I use to heat my 14’x24’ 3 season room. Some times I can smell it but it’s not objectionable. Burning propane indoors does produce water vapor but we are so dry here that it has never been an issue. I do have a carbon monoxide detector in the room.

In the shop I use a 150k BTU diesel torpedo heater in the shop. It heats the shop fast but there is a smell from it.

Unless you hook it up to a 20# tank it will cost an arm and a leg for those small propane tanks. They’re great for heating small spaces like a hunting blind and very portable.

Yeah i keep a spare around for the grill so I just run it on that. I've never even hooked it up to a 1 pounder. Pretty sure on full blast it'll burn a pound an hour.

I use the dual head version of this in the garage with the windows cracked open 1 1/2 " works very well.

Im in the same boat, looking for heat options for the garage

rental house, ~700 sqft garage, only 220/240 access is through the only garage to house basement door dryer outlet.
im just wanting heat for when its required to do repairs and contemplating options.

upside for me is that the walls, doors & ceiling is insulated.

ball park price for a electric 7500w heater and a cord long enough to reach the basement outlet & misc hardware is in the $300 range and id have to deal with messing with sealing the gap in the basement door id have to stuff the cord through as I go in and out.

dont want propane, get headaches and it creates moisture.

looking at running 2 $120 5kw Chinese diesel heaters and simply venting the exhaust out each garage window.
based off my rough calculations, I would require about 24,000 Btu's for the space on the low side of the range. each heater claims 17,000 btu so running 2 should put me in the Chinese math calculation range of about 34,000 btu who knows if the 17,000 btu rating is accurate.

my only requirements would be to provide diesel and a 12v power source and fab up some sort of metal filler panel to fit the exhaust out the slider window opening. no fumes, dry heat 🤷‍♂️ (y)

think im going to order one and test the waters to see what it can do. if it works out and I got to order another & ~$240 in supplies heats the garage id be a happy camper. and the upside is that if it doesn't, these diesel heaters seem to be in some sort of demand for the van dwellers so I should be able to get something for it if I got to try and flip it.

How long of cord would you need? Here’s what runs my heater when I’m not welding or plasma cutting.

Parkworld Welder 50A Extension Cord, Welding 3-Prong NEMA 6-50 Extension Cord (25FT) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CJHRNXN/?tag=wranglerorg-20

id need about 45' of cord. harbor freight carries 10/4 generator inlet cord for less than that at 25'.. not trying to poke but I considered that option too.

prices on wire seem to be going down a bit but they are still mind bending.

I ended up buying the one I pictured from Amazon. I figured I didn't like it I would use it elsewhere. So far I like it and it warms up my small 2 car garage decently. I haven't noticed any smells and it is easy to use. I feel if it was really cold outside it would struggle to keep up but with the outdoor temps in the 40s and 50s i think it will do Ok.

Love my big buddy heater (dual burner). Mostly use it when camping in our 10 person tent or when we spring for a cabin. Quiet, no smell, and heats the space very well. The tip over feature is nice for piece of mind. Also watched some videos before I purchased and saw someone test the low oxygen shutoff. The burner apparently shutoff well before actually hitting the low oxygen level it advertised. Have used it in the garage a few times and been happy with that.
