PowerTrax no-slip install question (to shim or not to shim?)

I have been using this long weekend to do some upgrades on the Jeep.

1st was to install a PowerTrax No-Slip in the front Dana 30.
I do not see anywhere in the instructions that the thrust washers I pulled out from the factory gears get reused on the locker so I reassembled it without them. Is this correct (no shims)?

The included go/no-go gauge fit (or did not fit) as expected, and the locker seems to slip when in 2wd and lock when in 4wd.

I have everything reassembled, but have not taken it off the jack stands yet (other upgrades are getting done now too). I just wanted to verify with the experts here and go back to fix it now if I need to.

Also, the axles have a bit of rust and scale on the outer ends. Is this an issue I need to address or in that normal?

PPS, 10 useless internet points to the 1st person to identify my error when reassembling everything. So close to getting done without a stupid mistake (unless I need the shims....)

Just to help anyone following in my footsteps. It seems that the PowerTrax No-Slip Dana 30 is one of the very few lunchbox lockers that you DO NOT reuse the thrust washer in.

Also, make sure your dust shields are not backwards when you reinstall the axle or you get to do it twice.

My plan is to install a no slip on my Dana 30 this year and I'm on the fence about whether or not to also upgrade to chromoly axles at the same time. Obviously you're sticking with your existing axles. Can I ask what size tires you're running?

I have 31x10.5R15 right now, but will probably go to 32" tall in the near future. No plan to go taller as I don't want to spend the money on a re-gear.
The Jeep is still in the garage up on blocks getting 1" MM Lift and a Curry cable shifter, but I have a trip planed on the 13th to get out into the woods and test the upgrades. I think the front locker and shifter will be great, and I am hoping the MM lift allows me to remove the transfer case skid plate spacers I installed after the lift. The rust on the outside of both axles worries me a little bit, so new front axles may be in the plans for later this year, but I have to see how the finances roll.

Thanks, I'm on 33s and while it seems like I might be ok with the existing axles, I'd probably be better off just doing the axles too at the same time so I don't have to worry about it, especially since my rear axle will remain open for the time being until I accumulate the funds to do a super 35.
