Interesting video on testing some friction rings

I saw another video recently (and maybe this one covers it) about how some of these were too small of a radius for the lines (maybe only certain diameters?) and actually compressed the line in a way that damaged the fibers and created a weak spot. Kind of like when fishing line gets a flat spot.

Not sold on any of Yankum's winch ropes or rings.

Using a nothing special Amazon ring and I have not observed any damage to my ropes... that's a cheap Amazon winch rope, a HF winch rope, a winch rope from Western Oregon Rigging supply and both a test rope and actual final product from BMB.

Interested in the discussion.

Most certainly if I'm doing 2 or 3 way or more pulls I'm using separate rings and soft shackles.

P.S. This was the heaviest load I've had to recover. I only had one recovery ring and one snatch block...so while I wanted to do 4 in 1 pulls I was only able to do 2s. (ordered a couple more rings since) Take it apart all you want and let me know what I could do better. I'm no expert and would love to learn.

Anybody use one?

Nope and that vid shows exactly why I said from the first time I was asked about those donuts why I do not think they are a good idea. Can you imagine using those in less than stellar conditions what that would do to your rope? That is why Blaine and I have been working on an alternative that actually works.
