I'm going to buy a new (or used) truck in the next year. So starting to look at options. So far, finding it odd that regardless of whether they're a V6 or V8, some turbo, some not, all seem to have similar gas mileage. With the gas mileage, I figure the numbers are tweaked for emissions and not power. When tested, I'm assuming they drive as slow as possible and not mashing the pedal.

Most interested in a Gladiator. I wouldn't mind a JL or JLU, but my wife is adamantly opposed to having a third Wrangler for fear that I will want to destroy it offroad. I guess I've made enough comments about the JT being too long for serious off road, so she's ok with that.

I might end up getting a 1500 size truck. For the price of a V6 JT (most interested in the Mojave), I can get a V8 RAM and they get almost the same gas mileage. That might be more practical even though I don't really NEED a larger truck. My wife's vehicle is a 3.5 Expedition with the max tow package. So unless she gets rid of it, I don't really need something that tows. If I do get a 1500 size, I will want the tow package though figuring in 5 - 10 years she will want something smaller.

I had a 2018 F150 with the 2.7 and it was perfectly fine. However, if the gas mileage is worse than the RAM, seems like the RAM would be better with less things (turbo) to go wrong. I like the Chevy/GMC, but that has the worst gas mileage, so probably eliminate it due to that.

Please chime in with your opinion. Especially if you have one of these listed.

Fuck all of them.

When we downsized from our 36' 5th wheel, we got a 26' travel trailer with gvwr of 5,500 lbs. I decided that a Max Tow Gladiator would be great, and I could do trails. All was good except getting pushed around on the highway by the big trucks. I searched and found a low mileage 1500 Big Horn with the 3.92 gears and specificly non e-torq. Way better at pulling the trailer and just all around a more comfortable ride. Not to mention the fun of the 5.7 Hemi 😊

I just purchased a Ram a couple of months ago and I like it so far, traded in 2010 ram. I would have gone with the smaller trucks if they had better gas mileage but I just don't see much of a difference. IMHO a smaller truck should average high 20s to justify the less than capable characteristics (lower towing/payload).
I also trust the V8 more than most V6.

I really wanted to go with a Silverado with the inline 6 3.0 duramax but they just wouldn't come down on the price. On a similar note, it annoys the crap out of me that these companies can advertise a certain level of towing but they are only making 1% of their inventory have the options needed to achieve those numbers. It made it nearly impossible to find trucks with higher towing numbers. I really wish they could just list the towing on the window sticker instead of making the consumer decipher the towing language of mainly the american big 3 trucks.

I would stay away from the gladiator.

Only reason I'd consider a Gladiator is because I've seen that they can't sell them and then should offer a good deal. The 1/2 ton trucks are more capable of truck things and would be my choice.

As someone who had my 3.5 ecoboost go ecoboom. I'd get the 5.0 if I didn't need to tow.

Since I tow I got a 1 ton diesel and couldn't be happier.

I had a Gladiator rental in Denver recently. I picked it because I have a JL also and it would be familiar with CarPlay etc. It's a pretty small bed in all ways. I only see the Gladiator for someone who also wants to offroad it and I dont think thats you.

Times must have changed because it always seemed to me that GM did better in MPG than Ford and definitely Toyota. My 2015 GMC 1500 did better than my buddy's 2015 Ford F150 turbo something.

I just ordered a 2500 GMC because it's a much more capable truck and essential the same price as the 1500 in same trim level. I hope to trailer the LJ to places far away in the next few years.

Dave Ramsey would be very disappointed in some of you lol..as much as I would love a new or even newer pickup I just can't afford one. You guys and gals buying 100k pickups must be making damn good money and I'm jealous

That's what I've been thinking. It would be fun to have the Hemi and still get better gas mileage than the JT. So that has better handling than the JT?

I like the slightly smaller size of the JT vs. a RAM 1500. Though the RAM would probably handle better. Not planning to wheel the JT. Just like the size and that I can take the top off.

West Covina jeep had gladiators for 28k in December.

I looked on their website. Nothing for 28K. Though they have a JT Rubi listed for $43. I called to get details. 2+ hours later and they haven't called me back. That always makes me scratch my head. I'm thinking about giving them a nice pile of cash and they don't bother to return a phone call.

I was at a Toyota dealer 10+ years ago with my wife. We were talking to him and had a few questions. Supposedly went to ask his manager. Saw him 10 minutes later with a different customer, just left us hanging.

I had F150's for years. It is just too much truck now. Our DD is a 2022 Santa Cruz. Gobs of power, decent mpg, comfortable, easy to park at WM, I can get 10 bags of mulch in it and still close the bed cover. Most importantly, my pups like it.

I also thought I would like the smaller size of the Gladiator, but I previously owned a 2500 and 3500 CTD Rams. As much as I liked driving the Gladiator, I feel much safer and comfortable in the 1500. And I'm used to a more medium sized truck. I put new tires on in October and went one size up from stock. They're just over 33" tall. I'm getting around 18.5 mpg's on the highway, and I really only drive it around once or twice a week.

I just picked up a 2021 f150 super crew 4x4, with the 5.0. I worked for ford for over 20 years so I have a few parts connections if needed. I wanted the naturally aspirated motor. I didn’t want to find the turbo is unavailable in 10 years. I replaced my 06 super crew 5.4 with 237000 miles on it. Fuel economy on my trip to Colorado 21-22 mpg around town here for the past month is reading 18. I get less in Long Beach area, could be driving habits or fuel. I bought it in Colorado with 17000 miles and saved about 20k from new. It is a high option XLT fx4 model. The tow capacity is at least 8k tows my LJ on 16’ trailer now problem. About 10 mpg Round trip going up to the rubicon and back with a side trip up the road to Yosemite and back down.
