Jeep TJ idling at 3000 rpm

Two things that commonly cause that problem: improperly seated intake manifold or major vacuum leak.

Make sure the intake is down flat on the surface.

When i crank my2.5L Jeep TJ up, it instantly goes up to 3000 rpms. I just replaced the exhaust manifold. Any suggestions??
You didn't get the intake manifold properly seated, it's causing a big vacuum leak. No you can't just tighten its bolts more, you're basically gonna have to disassemble everything and start over. Take the time to insure the intake manifold is properly seated this time or you'll end up having to do it again.

I'm having the same problem, fixed an exhaust leak and it idled at 800 for 2 or 3 months, then I didn't drive much, now 3000rpm ????? Any ideas? 97 se 2.5, limited income, cheap is preferred. lol

Aftermarket or OEM exhaust manifold?

Oem manifold, had a couple busted bolts when I bought it. For a couple of months after I fixed the exhaust leak it idled perfect at 800. Didn't drive it much for a couple months and it started idling between 1500-2000, now it wants to hang around 3000

Has to be a loose manifold. Did you make sure to use the correct cupped washers? What if you spray carb cleaner in the area of the leak?
