LOL. Those are ugly as is the Volt - both look better then the f'ing prius.... My friend had one of those also. Very small. Faster then you'd think. But not fun fast.... The 100% power to the wheel feel in an EV is cool - has to be experienced. Far different then ICE.

Name a new car that is sub $20K. We've already gone through this in this thread. Medium car price is $40K now last time I looked. That's for a ICE.

Again, Electric should be far cheaper than ICE - and there are several new cars available for around $20K - so the electric should be less. If the Median car price is $40K, that means there are a bunch of people who have more money than brains - but I've known that for many years.

More available credit than brains. Also, longer terms are bringing that monthly payment down, which is what the generic consumer seems to be concerned with. :(

I believe .gov mandates and/or insurance company recommended features have driven up car values. The examples I'm thinking of are tire pressure monitoring systems, lane departure warnings, self parking, and 47" plasma touch screen GPS.
 

An electric motor is far simpler. All that's needed is a motor, a battery, a good PWM controller, and an "E-meter" for battery status. That's it. Far simpler than even a model T. But these fools insist on making it complex partly to get another fractional percent of efficiency out of it, but largely just because they can. Guys have been doing shade tree EV conversions for decades.

That isn't all that is required and the first units of anything costs more than the 1 millionth unit. If EV battery and drive train components ever become as ubiquitous as LS engines and then your logic will hold.

That too - but again, guys have been doing this in their garages on the cheap for decades. Its all off the shelf stuff.

You can put lead acid batteries on a Model T chassis and get around town as a commuter buggy just fine. But to do an EV swap right and get decent range it isn't cheap. A little over a year ago I completely priced out what it would take to do a nice LJ conversion and it was damn expensive even DIY. On top of that it was way too heavy. An LS swap done by a shop was less expensive.

All I need is what I call a "60/60". 60 mile real world range at mostly 60 MPH. Probably doable with lead acid batteries, in leu of the uber expensive lithiums. That's the problem — EVs are trying to replace *ALL* ICE applications - they can't do it at ANY price. But for many commutes and around town? They could be fantastic. But 300 miles worth of slave labor batteries plus $15K of bullshit technology removes them from consideration.

Median car price for ICE is irrelevant, the only consideration is are there ICE cars in the 20s and the answer is yes, there are still quite a few, a price option simply not afforded to those that want EVs. Yet, anyway. The least expensive EV I believe is the Nissan Leaf at around 30k, & the prices go skyward pretty rapidly after that. I believe EVs will get there eventually while also solving all the other issues currently unique to them, this is what a free market does, as long as the government doesn't continue trying to strong arm manufacturers and the American people with unrealistic timelines, it'll work itself out on the timeline that makes actual sense for those companies rather than the pie in the sky whims of retarded politicians.
 
The dodge ramcharger looks great. A pickup version of the volt. 145 mile electric only range, well over 600 with gas.
