So i am going of to college later this year and the time has come to decide if i want to keep the Jeep or get something else, but first i just wanna know what yall think i could get for the old girl.

I'm just gonna list off things as I remember them to give yall an idea then i'll post some pics.

1999 Sahara, 4.0L, clean title, manual,186,000 miles, regular maintenance, hardly any rust, teraflex 3" lift springs with black max shocks, hockey puck bump stops, Savvy 1.25" BL and MML.

Dana 30/44, 4.56 gears, with an ARB air locker in the rear.

Full savvy CA in the rear with a currie track bar and angled bracket. Stock CA in the front with JKS track bar, ZJ tie rod. and a SWAY LOK BABYYYYYYY

JBconversions Super Short SYE, with a tom woods DS, savvy TC shifter, (no tummy tuck yet but all set up for one)

Other stuff includes: an ARB compressor, extended front brake lines, gas tank tucked about 1.5", weather tec mats, Mickey Thompson Baja atz p3 33" tires, the soft top replaced about a year ago with a new BesTop soft top. DirtWorx rear bumper, custom front bumper

CONS: slow power steering fluid leak, AC does not blow cold, (freon leak). It was hit (not hard) when owned by the previous owner and it messed up the right front fender flare, and when replaced they did not replace it with a Sahara sized fender flare so it is a couple inches thinner than all the others.

What do you guys think?

(I'm gonna update this whenever i remember something.)

TJ pricing is honestly too far-fetched to give an accurate number.

Someone could tell you $13k and someone could tell you $9k, with neither being incorrect.
Price it at a number that is comfortable for you, and a number YOU want to sell it at.

Yeah thats true for sure, but I'm also wanting to know what all yall PERSONALLY would try for?

Why dont you want to keep it?

Look at the comps for sale in your area that actually sell. That will give you a good idea of what to expect or ask.

If you dont want to sell it and do anyway, put a number on it you wont look back on and regret.

If the cons you list are the only ones and its paid for, I would drive it til it doesnt.

I actually just went through the same process with my Sahara. Similar mods.
I decided that swapping my parts over to my LJ, and selling the TJ stock would save me more $$ in the long run.
Sold the TJ in Stock configuration with 140k miles for $9,000.

IF that were my TJ and mods, I'd list at 12k.
I think that's a fair/realistic price.

I'd start by looking at what similar TJs are selling for in your area. Unless it is absolutely pristine, you won't get a buyer from more than a state or two away.

I figured you had lost interest. The above are the biggest issues I see with selling. You can't do anything about the mileage, but the power steering leak is likely a simple and cheap fix. The AC might not be a cheap fix, but I think buyers in our area will want AC, so it's either fix it or deduct the cost to fix.

If you didn't see, Jamesval035 just bought his son a relatively stock Jeep for somewhere around $6,000. He looked and waited for that deal, but they're out there. I frequently see TJs in my area with asking prices $7K-13K, but prices seem to be coming back down. Realistically, I would think $10,000 minus estimated repair cost of the above would be a good starting point.

College for me was 2 years of drinking beer and chasing girls. A Jeep was perfect.

So what did I learn?

Drinking beer and chasing girls really doesn’t do much for ya, long-term. 🙃

You asked, so I’ll say what I think, I mean no offense, but probably will offend you.

How did you get into college? You’re a young man, going to a town thag has multiple thousands of girls young and wanting to party.

You have a Jeep that is pretty dam nice. WTF are you thinking? Gonna get a Toyota Corolla. Keep that F ing Jeep, get the top off as soon as possible…and take the top down on the Jeep too.

I drove this rusted beauty 4 years in college, 3 of which there was no top anymore. I had girls just ask to take a ride…pun intended.

If you’re a real Jeep guy, there is literally NO BETTER vehicle in the world in College than what you own.

If you need the $, get a freaking job waiting tables, and make some freaking $. Keep the Jeep you NitWit!

Ha! I sold my CJ5 when I graduated, and regretted every day after, that’s been 27 years ago, ha.

 I'm offended.

I think a lot has changed since you were in college, mainly that "kids" nowadays generally don't care about vehicles above an A-to-B appliance, other than making some status statement. It seems to be about a 50/50 if they even bother to get their license at 16 now.

Aside from that, I would discourage driving a soft top and/or a vehicle you care about to college today simply because of the thieves and vandals. I had a friend lose his new EVO 9 at college because he had to park on the street, and a drunk came by and totaled 5-6 cars in one swipe. Another friend went to a school in a better area and still had someone slice his convertible top open and steal something. Another friend had a homeless guy knockout a window and use his SUV as a house for a few days. Point is, I think society has changed/degraded in and around our cities, which is where most of our state schools are, and a soft top anything parked in public is an easy target.

IDk which school @thekidwithquestions is planning on going to, but I have some good guesses and know the general areas. If I was the OP, I'd keep the Jeep at home and pick up a reliable old beater, if he still likes the Jeep.

Where are you going to college? I am as well this upcoming year… Not everyone who goes to college needs a car, but I certainly want one and know I will use it. Definitely taking my tj with me! I have no hesitation in that decision. I know that if I were to get rid of it, I’d regret that for a very very long time. In fact, I eliminated some colleges from my list simply because they didn’t have student parking on campus.

Taccoa Falls College, (dont tell anyone but the reason i would even consider selling my Jeep is to move into the realm of sports cars)
the thing is to REALLY enjoy the jeep i have to drive multiple hours to off-road, vs a lil sports car.....
