Hopefully a simple question - but I have a mental block when it comes to wiring / electrical

I am going to run with my spare in the back of my Jeep as I have no need for rear seats. I have therefore removed the tyre carrier and high third brake light assembly. I bought a basic LED light off Amazon, but now I have come to fit it I see it has three wires, of course the wiring that comes from the connector panel attached to the tail gate has two wires (live and ground I presume). Can I use the light I have bought or do I need an LED with just two wires? If I can use it how should it be connected to the two wires from the tail gate connector panel?

A link to what you bought would help, but if I were to guess, the light you bought might have a running light, along with brake light. Easiest thing, is determine ground, then apply 12v to either of the 2 remaining wires...

Thanks for your help. Link just posted above.

So IIUC connect the ground to the wire that runs to the ground one of the two tailgate-to-tub connectors and one of the other two to the live one of the two tailgate-to-tub connectors. Then just tape up the 'spare' wire?

I would just use the stock 3rd brake harness, and connect to the white/red wires, and yes, tape up the brown. It will be cleaner and less problems than tapping into the tail-light wiring.

Yes, only short 'tails' coming out of the light so will connect to the stock wires that run down to the connector box on the tail gate.

Thanks again.
