Dana 30 & 35 Re-gear Assistance

Flipping from root to crown and watching for the hard line to appear.

That second set of patterns look close but I would try a touch deeper.

What do you think?

Swapped the 10 and 14 shims out for 12 and 15. So 3 thou deeper. Considering the Dana 30 likes to be run a bit deep for strength, I think this should be good…

Is your paint thinned out well? Lots of force on the ring gear getting the patterns?

It seems like it flipped significantly for only .003" deeper. But before doing anything I'd make sure it is a good pattern.

So…turns out my BL which I measured at 0.006 was a farce. Carrier wasn’t seated right on this last run and I got 0.003 BL at parts of the rotation. So I reseated it now and I’m down to 0.003 at all points of the carrier. So back to the drawing board on carrier shims to fix that before I can analyze pattern. I did thin out the paint some more so it should go better next time I run it. I think it was too thick. I am using what I think is decent pressure with a glove.

Take your time bud. you'll get there. Whats the saying in the seals? Slow is smooth and smooth is fast?

Lol yeah not even trying to rush, just something I missed. I am ready to be done with this shit though.

Okay, so adjusted BL again. Got it to 0.008, right in the middle of the range.

I think this might be money?

You are a tiny bit deep.

Deep enough that you’d say it’s worth taking apart to try again with somewhere between 0.001-0.002 removed from the pinion again? Kinda thinking since it’s front axle I may just run it…

I can try to do the depth adjustment again, just not sure how much to remove or if I can even adjust by 0.001-0.002 with the shim collection I’m dealing with.

You have the formation of a fairly hard line at the root and I try to avoid that as best as I can especially if driven on the street. If you cannot pull .002 out of the pack just go back to the previous stack and call it good.

Will try again and see what I can come up with. Appreciate the help as always.

Okay, took out 0.002. Had to adjust BL again, I’m around 0.008.
