Greetings all

I have been busy and not able to keep you updated on my Jeep Journey. I was able to get the 97 TJ registered and inspected. A few issues that I could use some advice with are as follows.

* Soft top rear window zipper is almost impossible to get closed around the entire window. Tried a few Youtube options but nothing seems to work

* I have pulled out old crappy rugs and used a grinding wheel to expose good metal. There are a few cancer spots on floor pans behind seats. What affordable paint should I use to keep rust from forming?

* Heat seems to work but usually takes a while. I live in New England so I should not need it in a few weeks.

* Speakers under the dash are toast and don't need a high-end sound system. Is there a reasonably priced speaker that I can install with having to cut or modify the current space?

That's it for now.

Thanks Gang...

I used Herculiner for my floor. I'm happy w/ it.

The forum recommends 5-1/4" Kicker (brand) speakers as being far better than the 4x6 originals at a good price. An adapter plate lets them bolt right in - I put them in my Jeep and can't be more pleased.

Here's my story with them, scroll down about half way to get past the soundbar speaker section:

Don't miss the addendum at the end about the foam rings I added later!

Welcome to the show. I am just a bit north of you in Maine. When you get a chance check the inside of your frame especially where the skid plate bolts up. It can be a very sneaky place that rust hides.

If your floor pans are rusted through, you’re gonna need to replace the metal somehow. There are a couple methods.

Someone used truck bed liner on mine, and it works great.

I do have a few rusted out spots on the floors behind the seats and hope to cut out and spot-weld some new floor pans in place.

I took my floors down to metal anywhere I saw any rust, hit it with multiple rinses of phosphoric acid over a couple days to convert any rust left behind that I might have missed, then used brush-on rustoleum primer and finished with their matte black enamel.

I painted my protouring 78 z28 race cars trunk with Herculiner bedliner and was disappointed. Properly cleaned, sealed, etc didnt last but a year before some surface rust shown.

For the Jeep interior I opted for a very high zinc coating of Rustoleum professional in the silver gallon can for $60. First I wire wheeled all miniscule areas of surface rust, but was barely any. Hasnt been on long enough to give a review, but its thick and I expect based on reviews it will last ALOT longer

I have also used this to seal my F150s side steps that were rusting. That sits in the elements 24/7 and has been 1 year and solid, so the Jeep interior should really last long

Former owner drove it like this in FL, no carpet

This floor looks Amazing. Did you do work to it before painting? Was this an aerosol paint in a can or professionally done

thanks, I washed it really well, wire wheeled, washed again then a final wipe with acetone. Used spray cans I got off amz. I used 3 total, probably only needed 2. Took about a week to fully cure, but it was raining all week. Here is a before pic.

Good Morning All

Here is my question of the day:

The attached picture shows four boxes that were in the 97 Jeep Wrangler TJ I purchased. I had forgotten about them and found them on a shelf in the garage this weekend. The question is will they fit in my Jeep?
