Hey all, haven’t been able to work on the Jeep for a few days, but this is my follow up. Right now, after reading all the responses I have a much better understanding, and still need a few clarifiers. First, I have loosed the bolt, making the thingy (pictured) move either horizontal, at a slight angle, and even more angled towards the front of the car. Right now, I can only move the (shifter?) from the 2H, 4H, and N positions, I can’t move it into the last position up and go the left of 4L. When I had tightened it last time, it made it so the position of 2H was 4H, 4H was neutral, and neutral was 4L. I’ll post picture of this too. What im trying to get at is what angle of the first picture is 2H, and what angle are the other ones so I can try to correctly align them back up and see if I can atleast get the car into 2H. Or, if anyone just knows a way for me to get my car into 2H specifically, nothing else mattering, that would also be great. Thanks again!

Should the bar that the adjustable nut is on be free moving? The piece circled in the picture moved different angles when I go from 2H to 4h to N but I’m not sure I am supposed to be able to move it manually or how I’m supposed to adjust it exactly.

I think you need to loosen this to adjust it, I don't know if your picture is off or what?

Just loosen the the bolt I circled and be sure the rod slides. Then put the transfer case in 2wd by hand and tighten it. That'll get you close.

Thanks for the response! I am loosing the bolt you circled, but how do I know when the tc is in 2H that’s what I’m trying to ask :)

Edited - I went out and looked at a buddy's jeep.
The transfer case lever (hard to see behind the output shaft) should be pointing toward the front, about 45 degrees down. The linkage lever (attached to the tub) which is easier to see, should also be at the same angle.

Same, anybody know yet?

Just did a quick search, on a parts diagram it looks to be called the “trunnion lock bolt”, and on another forum it was said to be “5/16" diameter-18 threads per inch x 5/8" long.” If you give a google search for that bolt you’ll see the forum I mean. I tossed it all and went with a cable linkage and have had no issues since. Good luck and hopefully that’ll help you!
