Hey all.. it’s been a while since Ascho7 posted regarding his transfer case linkage arm.
I have a 2005 2-door TJ wrangler Renegade and it has been stationary since mid-March. A guy friend asked to borrow it for a night and 4 days later he called to ask if I have road side assistance . My murmured yEhHh.? arrived slow with such skeptical
Intonation.. he should have granted me the Luxury of hearing how he completely destroyed my Transfer Case, which I know would have had to be engaged in 4x4.
I believe if I hand my keys over to someone I do that knowing the things could potentially go sideways.. or upside down. I still don’t know. He replied on the phone with “I turned it on this morning and it felt odd idling in the driveway so I just turned it off and called you”
“ Mark any car is gonna feel an odd idling if it’s not your own, you don’t the Jeep it or and havent driven it before a few days ago.. your location is 18 minutes away.. what warrants a tow truck?
Put his head in the sand like an emu and I haven’t seen him for a few months ..which is fine! anyway, it took 2 weeks for my mechanic to find a secondhand transfer case that was usable and I could have had installed early May for $1300 aus dollar, plus labour on top of that equating to roughly two grand.. but wouldn’t be able to engage 4x4.
That’s was a hard no from me.
I moved from my 13 year mechanic across to a Jeep specialist who took five weeks to locate a transfer case somewhere in the middle of Australia. They got it here on a truck in no time.
The mechanic said that Mark hit something at quite a rate because the bar wasn’t just spinning. The bend point was going up and down like a piston so it was totalled. Being I was just appreciative to have my car back.
I’ve been on the road for about an hour and a half before hitting the freeway and by 90km/hr I had a death wobbles. I wasn’t sure if there would be some issues from the initial accident. Mark had which would come to light after fixing the main issue..
I’ve had the privilege of reading some of you pros or extremely knowledgeable Jeep aficionado’s have written on the forum, could my steering be pulling quite hard to the left.
When I picked up my Jeep, my driver side speaker and tweeter aren’t working. I’ve done the balance and fader, removed my 6 x 9. It’s reading fine on a multimeter and responding on a battery- popping outward. On both my driver and passenger side in the dash I have a 609 Alpine speaker and my Twitter is at Alpine. My amplifier is a kicker and so is my subwoofer and it’s a four channel. I’ve never had a fuzz or over ramped my system
I’ve told the mechanic and she said that they will have a look at it definitely but I haven’t spoken to them today about finding The transfer case Rod hanging out. I thought I’d reach out first and get some advice so they can’t take the piss because I can’t waste time if they’re not gonna secure the appropriate parts safely
So I think my three questions are then I would like to give me a bit of support and guidance
- Could my wheel alignment or steering be pulling hard to the left when driving and then getting death wobbles between 80 or 90 km an hour due to the not being connected outside the transfer case?
- My RPM and Speedo on the dash aren’t registering and could that be due to them knocking pulling or damaging the speed sensor when transferring the two cases over?
- Is there a link potentially between the work they’ve done that’s affecting my drivers front end speaker and tweeter
Any advice or knowledge would be super appreciated right now because some of the stuff I read on here is more articulate and thorough than a mechanic has been doing it for 20 years and to me when they hand my keys over after five weeks and I’ve just paid nearly 3 grand that’s including the service but they didn’t replace my bushes on the front swing arms as I requested which is fine but my car had fingerprints and oil is even inside my. I’ve got rubber moose gear shifter under the leather case and that was hanging through near the transfer case top end and I don’t know I’d rather reach out to the Community

Hey all, haven’t been able to work on the Jeep for a few days, but this is my follow up. Right now, after reading all the responses I have a much better understanding, and still need a few clarifiers. First, I have loosed the bolt, making the thingy (pictured) move either horizontal, at a slight angle, and even more angled towards the front of the car. Right now, I can only move the (shifter?) from the 2H, 4H, and N positions, I can’t move it into the last position up and go the left of 4L. When I had tightened it last time, it made it so the position of 2H was 4H, 4H was neutral, and neutral was 4L. I’ll post picture of this too. What im trying to get at is what angle of the first picture is 2H, and what angle are the other ones so I can try to correctly align them back up and see if I can atleast get the car into 2H. Or, if anyone just knows a way for me to get my car into 2H specifically, nothing else mattering, that would also be great. Thanks again!
