Transfer Case Grinding

My transfer case grinds when I try to go from 4H to 2H. It does not always do it. I also get the same noise sometimes going to 4H to 4l.

Reading the manual makes me think this is normal if my mojo is a little off.

Is this normal?

Stock linkage shifter or upgraded cable shifter?

For 4 Low you should go to neutral, for 4 high it’s somewhat not necessary.

My guess is your linkage isn’t adjusted perfectly and the linkage is a nightmare to adjust so do yourself a favor and put a cable kit on it. Way smoother and easier to get into the different ranges.

If you have manual hubs the tcase will grind when shifting it if the hubs are unlocked on the pavement.
