Is it normal for the transfer case shifter to have lateral play? It's nice and tight pulling up and down into 2H-4H-4L and engages properly but the lever has side-to-side play and makes a clunk when going over bumps.
Okay, just another noise I need to get used to I guess. I've only been a Jeep owner since the start of the pandemic but logged 7k miles in it. It has a similar sounding clunk of a broken sway bar end link...which I already have in the ensemble of creaks and groans.
I will look into cable shifter but I need to defer upgrades until I fund the gas tank skid replacement. Seriously living on borrowed time for that.

There are bushings in the shifter mechanism, my bet is they're just getting tired. It'd be real hard to beat just replacing it with Savvy's cable tcase shifter kit though.
