HVAC temps in a good working TJ with a good HVAC system

If I were post up some numbers from my OSC heater core how critical would it be that I use the same Robinair thermostat used in previous posts?
I can order one but I do have an instant read meat thermometer, not sure how accurate it is but might give a good enough idea?

@P man

Granted my evidence is anecdotal, but don't get the AGILITY heater core I got through Rock Auto. It's not even worth checking the temps. It's obviously not even as warm as body temperature. Piece of crap now inside my HEVAC. I'll have to go back in before next winter or move to southern California.
UPDATE: I meant to do this earlier. I found a plug unplugged. Plugged it in and now the Agility works well. I’ve yet to order the Robinair to test the heat levels, but I’ll get to it. I’m happy with the heat now. It warms up fast and keeps me plenty warm. Longevity unknown.

I don't know if it's just me but lately I have trouble trusting anything to tell me what I want to know. Temperatures, torques, you name it, who knows if it was properly calibrated and wasn't dropped from the top shelf while in storage?

And I don't know about Brass Works but I do appreciate them telling everyone how to stay safe wherever they live, including California:

"In short, do not eat metal. For more information, visit www.P65Warnings.ca.gov/product"

Oh c’mon, people are looking out for your best interests! 🤣

I replaced my heater core last Thanksgiving and got the AC charged up last week. I should test out my TJ and see the temps for it.

Thanks for the update!

Probably will go Agility with the knowledge that any replacement heater core probably won’t last as long as the OEM Mopar.

I don't know that it matters. I only picked that one due to be knowing who Robinair is, how long they have been doing HVAC stuff, and my lack of experience with anything else.

That's good news. If you like I can send you my Robinair to do some testing and you can send it back later, just let me know. I would be very curious to see the results from your Agility core.

I have a Robinair and a meat thermometer. They both read about the same.

Okay cool, I’m gonna get some reading for the output from my OSC and post em up (y)

Thanks so much for the offer Sri. Im ordering one tonight. We’re on vacation in Whitefish enjoying a few last days on the slopes. The results will be interesting. I don’t expect the Agility to perform as well as Mopar (the French unit), but it is fully acceptable to me IRL experience.

Blend door actuator. I swapped out the whole dash harness, and in the process I also swapped out the evap and heater core. I forgot to plug it back in. The good thing is it’s easy to plug back in from the passenger floorboard looking up on the bottom of the HEVAC.

My results so far. System was already heated up. I used a meat thermometer. If someone wants me to get a Robinair I can do that. I’ll do the other vents later. As you may know I have a broken part in the HEVAC that won’t allow me to change from defrost vents to dash to floor, though it changes randomly. Today the dash vents were blowing 133.6*F at ambient temp of ~48*F at my home.

I don’t fully know the relationship that would enable me to meaningfully compare @mrblaine 157*F at ~ambient temps of 69*F, but his ambient temp is ~21*F warmer than mine, and his temps are 23-24*F warmer than mine.

JMT said he was going to swap in a heater core that was touted to deliver 150 degree air. I said I had no idea where that put things but I'd find out, so I ordered in a Robinair instant read HVAC thermometer to find out. These are the temps from one with known good Mopar stuff in it.
Ambient with the sun heating up the black dash bits. No AC or defrost running.

Very close to actual ambient.

I started it up and while waiting for the engine to get up to temp and open the thermostat, I turned on the AC just to see what it was doing.

It got up to temp, opened the thermostat and the heater started working. Center vents first.

And then the fun one. I was trying to hold the thermometer in the floor vent but it kept roasting my fingers. I had to go get a clamp to do it. When I saw the temp, I understood. Scalding is 150. 164 is toasty.

Oddly, the defrost is a bit less but I suspect that would go up as the ductwork warmed up, this was all cold when I started. I didn't leave it there long since the heat was driving me out of the rig even with the windows down. If it matters, I can do it again to see what happens when I don't mess with the AC first, but the floor vents tell the story.

You can calibrate the thermometer, turn the dial hold the probe.
