I’d like to disassemble and lube all my Johnny joints.
Is anyone interested in renting the tools?
I’d cover shipping and give a healthy deposit to be returned when tools are returned

🤷🏼‍♂️

I don’t have one (except the press tool to get one in)- seems @mrblaine had a post about using all thread to make one once but please don’t quote me-

A shop press works for me also. They are 15% off at Harbour Freight today 4/1.

I’m gonna try a ball joint tool. It f it doesn’t work I’ll go use a press. I’m sure it can be done on my large vice if necessary.

I’d be happy to lend them to you if you still need, we should confirm sizing of joints to make sure tool would work though. I have a few different sizes

I need the 2” and 2.5”. Gonna try the ball joint press tools with the large vice tonight. I’ll let you know. You are kind.

Ball joint press works ok if you have enough bits to play with. Extra set of hands helps as well.

Took apart 2 of the 2” joints today. I’m going to share photos of the 2” narrow that I removed from my Core 4x4 front track bar.
Remember 3 years old in good ole NYS

look closely at the ball. Was it this pitted when new? Can i clean this up, grease and reuse or is a rebuild with a new ball necessary.

By the looks of things this isn’t going to be the only one.

Anyone have a photo of a brand new ball?

Im sure there is a thread I should look for.

Another photo of standard 2” the plastic cups. Zoom in. This isn’t really smooth either.

Maybe someone has photos of a new rebuild ?

TIA

When I took mine apart it was not pitted, or not nearly as much as that one appears to be.

Pretty sure I’ve got pictures in that thread of my trials into keeping Johnny joints clean and moving freely. I don’t typically drive in the winter much though. I looked back through my posts where I rebuilt an old set of control arms, and while they were bad, they didn’t look as bad as yours.

The rebuild kits are two washers, a snap ring, and the poly races. I’d hit the ball with a wire wheel and evaluate. You might have a couple hundred into rebuild kits, but I don’t think the whole joint is junk.
