Just.Thorne's Tank Green LJ Build

Great work doing the due diligence to clean it up and painting while you're in there! Enjoy the weight savings and refreshed look.

Yeah, my dad has made sure to drill into me that cleaning as you go is a mandatory step, it definitely pays off. I'm more excited to have a cleaner look upfront, and I would probably add 100lbs for that.

Drove to school today, the Jeep felt very uncontrolled at speeds over 70, less so than usual, I'm assuming that this is because of not having as much weight on the front (no bumper or winch this morning), so I was wondering if anybody could clarify that this is because of the lack of weight.

probably not...what else did you change since you've last driven it?

OH GOOD LORD IT HAS ARRIVED...

After three weeks it showed up, and it is beautiful, the quality is really nice, package could have been a little better ngl. A healthy layer of saran wrap is all that kept it protected from the UPS man, so there is a few dings around the back edge that need to be filed down.

100% worth the money and wait, as someone who has welded for about 45 mins, I can tell you that the welds are really nice, nice finish, and super light.

Half doors also arrived today, I left them inside for about 2ish hours so they could warm up, and then stretched them onto the frames with my dads help, the need to be cleaned, but they are in pretty good condition for $50.00

I just so happened to drive past that auto dealer with the TJs in Barneveld while making a delivery, and I recognized it from this thread. Decided to stop and look at the Jeeps. The Golden eagle, Rubihara, and LJR's are still there. Small world. 🤯

What paint did you use for the bumper? I just purchased the same one for my LJ. Couldnt beat the price.

Krylon Fusion textured black. it came out pretty good, it gets runny quickly though. Its not super textured, but just enough for my taste.
Definitely Worth the price, some of the highest quality stuff I've seen in while, you'll like it.

Gave the paint 24 hours to dry, got the bumper, winch, tow hooks, and winch on. looks really nice, I ordered the connectors for the fog lights but they haven't shown up yet. all together the new setup came in at a actual weight of 81.4 lbs, so just under 30lbs lighter than my original setup and much better looking. Also went through and re-torqued my lugs and did a few other things to prep for my trip tomorrow, I'll post some pics when I get there.

Survived the trip up, about 110 miles on the highway, not a lot, but enough to figure out what needs done, I REALLY need to get my steering sorted… it got little sketchy at some points with the snow/rain.

Staying at my friends camp for the weekend, plan on doing some trail running, and do some shooting, they have a private range, and a decent selection of rifles so should be a fun weekend

LJ looks great! Are you going to paint match the half doors?

It did really good off road, albeit, it was mostly gravel roads, hauling ass like I'm a rally driver, but it did good none the less. the shocks rode super nice, and the handling was good off road. I was able to do about 85mph the whole way back home.

When I got home I had a nice little cleaning section, rinsed out the tub and washed the outside, discovered a couple new pinstripes.

Cut up my trailer brake harness, since this jeep will likely never tow, and spliced it into the third brake light ring, I would have preferred to use normal wiring but that was missing when I bought the jeep and the local junkyards haven't had a TJ since December.

One of my friends dads drives that white JT, and he was telling me about how when he worked for New Process gear back in the early 2000s, (NPG is in my town) he converted his TJ's 231 to a 242 out of a all wheel drive Cherokee, and I was wonder if anybody else had done this swap.

Took the top off for my 70* trip to class today, tested out the soft doors at speed, they do not do very much, and I froze, as it was only about 45* in the morning, but when I go to lunch it should be ideal.

I have a guy from marketplace dropping off a Bestop Bikini top and Windjammer that I'm gonna try out for a bit, for $100 it seemed like a good deal.
