Factory radio value - is this thing worth keeping?

Yep. I put a correct model radio into my 1974 Mercedes (will be 50 years old this July). Has cassette and everything. Cost a lot more than a fancy new unit but it has something none of them have - its knobs match the dashboard knobs because they were designed to go together.

What '74 MBZ do you have? I assume the radio is a Becker.

I am NOT an audiophile. Actually have pretty significant hearing loss. But i like to rock out with the tol down.
Followed the "upgrade your stereo" thread and ordered parts and got to work.
Replaced all the speakers and added the subwoofers to the console with some easy mods.
That amp fits under the steering column and I couldn't be happier with it. Pairs well with the stock head unit and I added a Bluetooth receiver to allow me to stream MY music instead of whatever crap the local station is playing.
total investmentless than $600 and It's got enough oomph that I can do 70 with the top down and hear everything fine, some songs require full volume and it's funny to see kids in shitbox Hondas with $3000 stereos wonder where the bass is coming from.

Good to hear, I just need it to be louder, and replace my nonexistent factory sub. Going to start gathering all the parts. Thanks!

I listed my factory stereo ($20) and "like new" Bestop tinted windows a year ago. Finally sold the windows for $50 and threw the stereo in the trash.

I shop around for these sometimes. Depending on the year and model, they can go for anywhere from $50 (usually) to a few hundred. Pre-03, with the square corners, usually go for more.

Got a pic? I'm curious.
Sure do. Sorry it's a crappy pic.

I hoard shit too much. Still have the factory head unit out of my old 2000. Don't even have the Jeep anymore.

I figured somebody somewhere along the line might want it and I can make fifty bucks. But the space it's taking up and the work to sell it is starting to become more valuable.

Maybe it isn't even worth anything.

Do I trash it? Any market for these?

If you have it and it works, I buy it for a reasonable price,

You would need to get into the case and solder an aux input cable or BT module to the L/G/R of the CD input circuit.

These are pretty easy to update with Bluetooth.

There are companies (individuals?) that sell modded OEM radios that have bluetooth. I guess to do that, you have to be committed to the OEM look, which I understand. You end up paying more for a radio that will sound worse than an aftermarket radio. So assuming the look is more important than the sound?

The aftermarket single DIN radios will fit just fine in the dash. So if you're worried about looks for when you sell the Jeep, just retain the OEM radio.

It's a fair point. I have had an aftermarket stereo, and I despised all the flashy blingy lights, and I went back to OEM. In my case, I am definitely staying as close to OEM as possible.

Just because it hasn't been mentioned recently, the Jensen "heavy duty radio" is a great match for our Jeeps. Single DIN, it comes in a couple or three different variations. I chose the "mechless" (fancy name for no CD player) as it plays from Geek Sticks, but a CD version is also available. AM/FM/Weather, no light show, nice front panel with large buttons, conformal coated circuit boards to resist moisture. Some versions have Bluetooth, although mine doesn't.
