As the tile says, our power steering pump is making an awful amount of squeaking at idle. I pinpointed the root cause by spraying WD-40 on the shaft and the noise stopped, although only temporarily.

So, is there a trick to silencing this unit, or am I going to need to replace it?

It's not just the pulley?

It's definitely NOT the belt slipping on the pulley, it's the shaft that's squawking.
I haven't taken anything apart to properly diagnose or repair yet, but I figured that the bushing/bearing may be the issue and I don't know if they are replaceable.

My power steering pulley was squeaking so I found a replacement on Amazon, haven't swapped it yet, but I'm assuming that should solve the problem.

Water will also help pinpoint the problem and prevents getting a lubricant on the belt.
