yes, it still spins when you're in 2wd because it's still engaged from the axle end.
Yeah. Older trucks, like OBS Fords, have hubs that you engage. We don't have those. Some people that are geared pretty low will use engagable hubs to eliminate vibes on the road.
Your double cardan on the front driveshaft may be ready for a rebuild (angry sparrows) and you can remove the driveshaft for safety purposes

If the double cardan is acting up, don't mess around with it. If it seizes, it will split your tcase in half.
Just pull the front shaft out until you get it fixed.
