Windshield Defender

My glass replacement coverage through my insurance cost me significantly less than that per year. Do or have you asked your insurance provider what they can quote you on glass coverage?

My insurance stopped offering me glass insurance when my ex got replacement windows too often.

Once she became my ex I got the coverage back.

Guess it could depend on your area geographically as well with glass coverage restrictions.

4 years or so and ive only replaced the windshield twice. no charge at the glass shop and no increases on insurance other than the typical lately "it cost us more to insure vehicles now so we're raising everyones premiums" gig.

Glass coverage is optional with Progressive and therefore built into the premium (it’s an option on screen that says $1000 deductible or $1000 deductible + glass replacement). I usually don’t take the coverage because it’s $215 for a replacement and I don’t trust them not to raise my insurance if I claim a windshield. If I can avoid all that by getting three peel away glass protectors I’d be pleased. Typically when my glass breaks I drive it till it becomes unbearable. Maybe I’m crazy for not trusting insurance companies, but when their first rule is to do anything but pay the customer…well.

Mine is a $10/year adder. In my trucks the windshields have cost over $600 to replace. I’ve never had them raise the premium.

I asked the company if they would replace my windshield if it chipped or cracked? They said no. I then asked, why would I waste the money for your product if there's a chance of it cracking anyway? ..............Silence.

To ea their own what they feel is “worth”

Wrangler windshields are plentiful and gotta be cheap
Just dont call Safelite, or its not cheap anymore

I carry glass coverage now as Ive had at least 10 windshield replacements (various vehicles) over the years. However if I want it done cheap I call Aarons Autoglass in Chicago.

the curved windshields like JL JT, makes more sense.

a flat shield like the TJs aren’t really that expensive.

Both Alaska and now Colorado, we go through some windshields.

I've been wanting to replace mine for a few years. No major chips and no cracks.. just a sort of sandblasted look when the sun hits it just right. I already have a frustrating passenger side leak I can't find and don't want to risk another leak.

I had the exact same thing happen in Denver. I saw the damn thing come off the over pass, hit the road in front of me and bounce. I was almost the size of a golf ball.

Sandblasting is also a real thing out here. Years ago, I had a windshield replaced. Then a few weeks later I was racing down from the tunnels at about 75mph, at the bottom where there was a swirling wind storm and got pelted by small sand and gravel. The new windshield came out pitted.

If you had asked about my wife, it was because she drove about 3-1/2 miles on I-80 to and from work 5 days a week for 24 years. Luckily about 6 years ago they moved considrably closer to where we live and any freeway is now out of her way.

I was even shocked once taking that drive when what looked like a piece of coal from no where gave me an area you couldn't see through the size of my fist.

And what the heck since driving under overpsses came up. I was driving to work in the winter and as I drove from under the overpass I got slammed by what was probably at least a ton of snow from the state plow driving over. Half of it hit the winshield while half hit the roof so loud it sounded like a cannon went off. I'll never know how there was no damage from that.

That does it for me. Thanks Boog.
