Hello! I followed

Moliver11

Advice on using a magic eraser on the hardtop. But mine did not come out nearly as good. There are little drops all over even though I dried it and like fingerprints or something all over. I did use back to black once so maybe that’s stuck on it? Not sure. Any advice?

Yep, time to repaint it.

That's the only way you're going to fix that faded paint. Many of us have had to do this.

That’s what I was assuming.. the rest of the paint is not great either. Guess I will need to just suck it up haha. It looks a lot better though after the magic eraser so that’s something. Almost 200k on it. Been in my family since new.

On a positive note fantastic job of getting it ready for paint-

There are a lot of ways to approach painting these- I’m about to use urethane automotive paint and a cigar roller on one.

I’m not painting it haha. Atleast not now. It’s just too much money.

Where are you buying paint man?

I’m doing mine for like $125. And could have gone less if black but I “had” to have Khaki.

Dude you have no idea how bad I suck at painting shit haha. I can’t paint anything. Plus how would I prevent stuff from falling into the hard top?

Use a spray, in your garage. I used this on my last hardtop. Think I got the idea off a post on here a few years ago.

Try wiping Penetrol on the top. It is a paint additive normally used to keep paint from drying too quickly. Leaves a nice hard finish as it cures. I think it is a type of linseed oil. My 2002 top had faded to gray, and it brought it back to black. Be sure to wipe off the excess or it will start drying, become sticky and difficult to get the excess off. Will need to reapply every 6 months to a year depending on the exposure to sun and weather.
