Im thinking of going back to the factory flares on my TJ, because I prefer the tighter look around the tire. I purchased this jeep this year, pretty close to as you see it. i.e. smittybuilt bumpers, rock sliders ect. I live in florida, its flat land here and I don't see myself getting into a situation that my tires ( 33's ) would make contact with the stock flares. Im willing to hear all opinions,
Thanks.

Faded fender flares are pretty easy to come by. If you want new fender flares, there are a few different aftermarket options in the $150-300 range.

I like the fenders the way they are. They don’t add any clearance over stock because the seam on the stock fender is still there and it’s the first thing the tire contacts that has any significance. But they look good to me. If you like the stock look “go 4 it!”

I removed my stock flares and replaced them with 7" wide ones because I was tired of having mud slung all over my doors. So if you get into mud at all, keep that in mind.

I've had two Jeeps with flat flares and never liked the look. It's a personal choice that only you can make.

You could also get stock TJ Rubicon flares. They're the same shape but a little wider.

I think the color-keyed Sahara's were 7" wide. I just sold a set of Sahara fenders a few weeks back and that was one of the things the buyer wanted me to verify. And now I don't remember how wide they were. But they were definitely wider than the stock Sport flares.

I think Sahara flares like 5-6” vs Sport at 4-5” …. 7” is most likely slightly wider. Measuring what you have is a little bit of a guess…,

They're the same width as the Rubicon flares. 4.25" wide vs 3.25" on other TJs.

So I found 4 flares and 2 TJ mirrors, all for $30 listed on Craigslist in the next town from me, So I poured a cup of morning coffee and took a little ride. I ended up meeting a really nice guy that does paint and body from a building on his Family's homestead. When I get some time I'll paint the flares and Mirror frames body color and get everything installed. It may be a few weeks so stay tuned.

I thought about getting 7" wide flares but couldn't get this image out of my mind. I'd rather have the mud on my Jeep.

Far as I'm concerned, image be damned! On a scale of 1 - 10, looks would come in at about 99. "Functional" is always #1. I know I stated "mud" in my post but the bigger problem is manure. All of northern Nevada is open range (livestock have right-of-way) and they wander all over the roads, leaving their "droppings". Nothing like having fresh wet manure all over your nice Jeep. It dries really fast...and the aroma is....unforgettable.
