Quest for more space

If you're going for the trailer option, shop around for a good-used utility trailer at least with a 4x8' bed. There are many of these around, and they are easy to re-vamp. Lengthen the reach with a shear on each side. Expanded metal sheath over the reach and shears .... good for gas cans, rigging etc.
If you're running 15" wheels .... match them up with your TJ. Same wheels/tires for both. Interchangeable.
We use these small trailers for camping/utility purposes often.
Lots of options if you're a handy guy ...
Very sale-able when the time comes.

Yea that is very true, I haven’t even checked my local Craigslist to see what is available.

Teardrops are actually a helluva lot of fun. I bought mine off a guy who painted houses for a living, and used it to haul his paint in. It was a 1968 Scad-A-Bout. Did some repairs and remodeling, and used it until our son was born. Then I bought a fiberglass Scamp, which I was not as impressed with. Just didn't dig the way everything being fiberglass felt. Took something away from the camping experience for me.

while I was building Franky, I ran across one of these little gems.

It satisfied a lot of criteria for my wife, hard sides and roof, storage, and you can stand up in it to change. Other than that, it pretty much was a bed on wheels.

We had some good times. Had it for about 3 years, then sold it for an upgrade.

My youngest daughter(who was born 20 years too late, total hippy), bought a Scamp and basically lived in it at the base of Mt. Shasta in the forest somewhere for 6 months. Oh to be young!

That’s pretty cool, looks light weight.

I really like that set up! I see you have your roof rack on when camping and off in the pic where your hard top is on. Is it pretty easy to remove that style rack?

I made the mounts to attach that rack to the top of the roll cage. Easy to take on and off. Nice to have the windshield down too when on dirt roads.

1. I could just remove my back seat

Simplest choice. ^^^^

A. get a cargo rack for it.

Great on the highway. Not so great on a rough road.

B. Get a small trailer to haul the tent, ice chest.. so in and so forth.

Best choice. Keep it short and light it will follow you anywhere. There is really no disadvantage to this option if you can back up..... Make sure the trailer is 5' wide so you can fully see it in reverse.

3. the last option would be a roof rack.

Two disadvantages to the roof rack, top heavy, And like the rear rack, best on smooth roads.

The big advantage of a trailer is being able to drop it in a minute. Any other choice means stopping and off loading.

I too like a hardwall camper and a full double bed. I built mine to fit my 5x10 trailer.

If its just the two of you, I remove the rear seat, can fit my fridge/swag etc fine. I also have these Bestop bags that attach to roll bar on each side of the cargo area, fabulous things.

Small trailer is the go though, you then get your Jeep back as soon as you unhitch it.

Yea after reading the last 3 or 4 posts getting a trailer actually is starting to seem like a good option. The whole getting your jeep back as soon as you unhitch it seems like it could be useful when up in the hills.

I recently fabricated an interior cargo rack for the area behind the back seat of my LJ. It allows for two levels of gear so you don't have to pull everything out to get to the items on the bottom.

If I am going to be away for an extended period I sometimes take my 1946 Bantam trailer, shown here behind my "other" 4WD vehicle:
