P0344 on a 2.4

Hey group,

I have searched the forum to see if anyone is having this code on a 2.4L and haven't found a solution.

I purchased the jeep in a none starting, no click, no crank mode. Sent the pcm to wranglerfix and discovered it was bad, so ordered and received a pcm with warranty. Now the engine will start, but I am getting a p0344. It will start and idle fine, until driving, then generates a p0344 and won't run above 2000 rpm, going into limp mode.

All grounds checked and religiously cleaned, resoldered ground under the intake manifold.

Checked +5 supply and signal wire from cam sensor to pcm for continuity and damaged wires.

Replaced cam sensor with 3 different brands.(NAPA Echlin, AZ duralast, and Rockauto walker) with no luck. Mopar sensor no longer available. Finding a sensor from salvage for the 2.4L has been unsuccesful.

Someone has suggested the OPDA and a cam relearn. The 2.4 does NOT have the OPDA. And a cam relearn is not referenced in the FSM for the 2.4L, only for the 4.0. I took it to a shop with a Snapon scanner and there is no cam relearn available in the scanner options for this engine.

Someone suggested possible noise from a bad alternator. So I cleared codes, ran it without alternator and the code came back.

The timing belt is new. And the timing is NOT off a tooth. The target ring looks to be in perfect condition and has been gapped at .030 with brass feeler guage.

I am bumfuzzled and not sure where to turn next. Been fighting this issue for a month now

Thanks Mark, I talked with Jay yesterday and he made some suggestions as to other things I can check. I have someone coming to do some live stream readings with a scanner to try to pinpoint the conditions under which the code is generated. Will post the results and solution if found....I did reset the code yesterday and let it idle for about 15 minutes with no codes, then increased engine speed even at wide open throttle with no code. But as soon as I drive it and engine goes under load, code comes back. I thought I might remove the toner ring and check it for runout, but that involves pulling the front crank pulley and timing covers, ( a real pita for this engine). In my thinking overnight, I am wondering if some other sensor that shares the +5 supply to the cam sensor might be acting up, or I may have an intermittant short somewhere in the +5 wire in the harness. I don't know how I would find it, short of pulling out the whole wiring harness in the engine compartment and unwrapping and inspecting it. But I am getting to that point.
