Whelp, my power steering return hose developed a hole and blew out all the fluid. Fairly simple fix, just replace the hose. Right? Until this happens…

That little sucker broke off the bottom of the reservoir. A part that is seemingly impossible to get for a 2.5. So, after scouring the internet for a replacement, looks like I’m gonna try to repair it with some JP weld and cross my fingers. 🙄

According to the parts list for your '99 TJ (here) the 2.5L and 4.0L use very a different PS pump and reservoir. The OEM part number for the reservoir on the 2.5L is 52087713. Google that, and see various places which may have a new one, or eBay which has used ones for around $100.

I’m finding repair videos where they use a reservoir from a Honda. I can find them on eBay but they list for over $100 and I can’t bring myself to pay that price for a little plastic tank. I’m crossing my fingers on the weld and I’ll keep looking for a used one from a parted out 2.5.

Worse case, I have manual steering. I know that’s bad for the pump but quite frankly, I’m hoping to replace the engine and transmission at some point anyways.

Update: JB weld didn’t even hold well enough for me to attach the hose. Tomorrow I’ll hit up a salvage yard and if they don’t have one I’ll try a plastic welder from Harbor Freight.

It’s been so long since I had a 2.5 but I’m pretty sure those cheap generic aluminum power steering reservoir ones off Amazon will do the job.

I can dig one up if you don't find one. Yes, I'm aware that they hook onto a tab on the fan shroud.

Whelp, my plastic weld did not hold. I appreciate the offer to dig one up but I’m at the point of accepting that I now have manual steering. If I were to spend anymore time and money on this and have a replacement reservoir break, I might go postal. 🤪 I guess I just need to get serious about an engine and transmission swap.
