I have a 1999 4L with only 69k miles. For a while it had a ticking noise on cold starts that would usually go away once the engine warmed up, although I’d occasionally hear it while driving too.
I did the soapy water test found a cracked exhaust manifold, so I replaced it last week. The old manifold definitely had a crack, but the Jeep is still making the exact same ticking noise, lasting anywhere from about 3 to 30 seconds before it goes away.
I’m attaching a YouTube Shorts link so you can hear the sound. Does this sound like something I should be worried about? What do you think it could be, and what would you check next? Assuming it’s a lifter tick.
