Host F550 4X4 Motorhome Quad Slide 330

That's what I'm thinking.... I'd like to have something to prevent or mitigate it happening again....

If it was a one way valve? Wouldn't that allow air/water to come out but not come back in?

Normally I closed the valve when traveling. I tested the pump yesterday with the valve open and it works....

I'm just surprised that they didn't install some type of popoff valve there...

It's been a consistent theme with Poulsbo RV....
Their work might be OK but their cleaning skills SUCK.... I've found sawdust and crap after they'd replaced the roof...
And then the same when they'd done the A/C in the rear...

I'm just resigned to the fact that they don't know how to clean up after the fact.

Hell I'd gotten a oil spot on the carpet of a motorhome I'd been working on. It was a diesel pusher so I'd ran plastic down the center isle. But got a spot smaller than a dime in the carpet.
You'd of thought I'd spilled a gallon of oil...

I got a free one of these when I picked mine up from Apache 👌🏼

Yes and that could create a problem all in itself...

This is the result of my deep dive in case you're interested in trying it out...

The rabbit hole gave some conflicting information so keep these things in mind if you go this route.
1. The spring valve has a break open pressure of 0.5psi. According to the research if you want to call it that, anything more than that can cause a very similar failure you experienced with the valve closed. At 1.0 psi of water pressure, there is actually 144 pounds per square foot being applied to the tank walls..
2. At only 0.5psi break pressure there might be a slight possibility that air turbulance under the motorhome can create sufficient vacuum to open the one way valve and allow siphoning.
3. The nature of the one way valve would stop air from venting back through the pipe when you turn on the water pump to run water inside the motorhome which has it's own set of problems...

(I would probably lean towards this route)
There is another alternative that popped into my head today when I was taking a leisurely drive through the mountains,
and that is a normally closed 12 volt shut off valve. You can wire it to the same poower supply that the pump runs off of. When you turn the pump on it opens the valve and when you turn it off it closes., you could also wire a power switch in right next to your fill valve and put a HUGE sticker by it saying turn me on before filling or hang a tag on the gate valve you have to open to fill the tank...

I was chatting with my neighbor about overfilling the water and he said that he has a regulator to avoid it going too crazy because campgrounds have varying water pressure. I don't know much about RVs, so it might be bad info - but it would make sense to me that if you lower the pressure to something like 40psi you couldn't blow out the tank and wouldn't have to touch anything else.

In line pressure regulators are used when hooking up to municipal water supplies to use water in the RV as you stay in it instead of relying on your potable water tank and 12 volt pump.

Potable water tanks are supposed to be vented if they have an attachment like what is on Rick's tank or are just open fill ports that don't seal to the fill hose and the water will just back up and out the fill tube if it over flows.

So why not just simply have an upward loop in the vent tube before going down and out? What am I missing?

I'm not sure what is the norm or how things are done now. My solution to start with is to ask other Host owners how their rigs are setup....

The easy way to deal with it right now is to just close the valve when traveling and only open it when filling the water tank.

You could get a battery powered hose sprinkler timer. Set it to manual, dial in a time...have a good idea of how long it takes to fill up.

Then if you get distracted it just shuts off.

Fixed the awning today....
Adjusted the lean so it clears the slide when it's all the way out.

And tried to get it close to the slide but not hitting it. This is with the slide fully extended.

Then had to adjust the awning retraction. It wasn't closing all the way. Of course the limit screws are on the opposite end of the awning near the motor.

And to add to my agrivation 3 of the LED's on the light strip are bad already. I think I've used those LED lights maybe 3 times for a short while each time.

Dealership: Awning can't be adjusted

Wildman (Jeeper): Yeah, okay... [Don't tell me it can't be done]

Honestly Rick - if anyone could find clearance, you are THE guy! Watching your Jeep build, we know you are the master of finding an inch (or fraction of an inch) where none exists.

—-

Very happy to see this story ending! Delivered before Labor Day surprised me - no 'contractor' meets their deadline... (and on a motorhome they are closer to contractors than shop mechanics). So this is a up-swing for you on the luck!

Enjoy it. Get the Jeep back on 4-wheels before the weather gets cold or enjoy snow wheeling. And get it towed on this motorhome.

Meanwhile, take care to also rest and recover on your health issues recently. Seems like you're on the upswing and we're all pulling for you more there than the Jeep and the motorhome.

I'd thought I'd taken pictures of the burnt out LED's but I guess not....
So anyway here it is.

Not a huge deal but still aggravating....

I'm so tempted to go back over to the dealership and show them the adjusted awning.....

But I've got more important things to worry about...
My recovery and then getting the Jeep back on all 4's and hit some trails....
Plan right now is to go home Sunday.

I get that attitude. And that requires more in-person time away from projects that matter to you. Maybe a phone call with an offer for pics.

But that all could also be wasted breath.

I would not go in person bc they didn't seem to want to try. That tells me they may not want to learn. Especially considering the poor quality they returned your motorhome back to you.

As long as one of those little things is not filling up your water tank, you are golden...

😉

Can't guarantee that.... If I'm going camping I'll have to fill it.....

Right now it's get it all cleaned up after the work they did on it...

Had to get a little something for the motorhome since it was repaired... Wanted a key rack that fit what I use the motorhome for...

I'm going to mount it near the main door where I can reach it from the steps. Just not sure if it'll be on the right or left yet...

That's cool! Do you have a link where you got it? I'd be interested in changing the camper's key rack out for something like that.
