Behind the rear seat storage options

Nice, looks good!

You can store your machine gun rounds in there as well!

I have some family coming into town for the holidays, and they want me to take them out on some trails. Unfortunately, that means that I need to put in the rear seat which I have not done since I bought the Jeep three years ago. I keep all of my recovery gear, extra parts, and fluids in a plastic tub. However, there is no way that tub will fit in the area behind the back seat.

So my search for alternative storage has begun, and I first turned to ammo cans/boxes because I'm familiar with them. At first I looked at the 81mm mortar box, but it appears to be too deep at 25" Long x 13" Wide x 7-1/2" High. Now I'm looking at a couple 120mm cans that are 12"x6"x32" tall.

What inexpensive options am I missing? What have you all used?
Just a thought.... Do you need any of that stuff on the trail if you go with other Jeepers? So much of the "must have this" stuff is never really needed. Can you go with a couple of other Jeeps? Should you even think about going alone?

Fluids.. take water. Travel with other Jeepers and take your Cell Phone and AAA and VISA.... plus some cash... and pick safer routes.

For my own peace of mind, yes, I need everything that I take with me. Even when out with large groups I bring all of the same things.

I don't carry much behind the back seat except a small bag of odds and ins. I do carry a battery pack in case someone need a jump. The battery pack is fairly heavy for its size and slides around every time I turn a corner. I need to come up with some way of tying it down.

Just closing the loop on this one. This morning I finally had a chance to pull everything out of the tub. I laid everything out in the floor, and sure enough I was able to get everything to fit except for a jug of coolant and my large bolt cutters. I am officially happy. :D

I think my wife bought me one of those saddle bags for Christmas, so I've held off on pulling the trigger. Those will make for great BOV storage.

we took the back seat out and make a large dog bed but you can see the box in the back. Fits nice and slopes with the back seat when it's in to use all the space behind the seat.

Since we are just a few days away until the holiday, I finally cleaned out the back and reinstalled the back seat. I was able to get everything in the space behind the seat except for the ammo can with the extra fluids. Believe that I'll,have to forgo that can for this trip.

I received one of those saddle bags that I posted on page one as an early Christmas present. It's really nice and will definitely provide some much needed additional storage options.

Pics in the Jeep!? I was looking at the 20mm, but may be too big
I never took any of them in the Jeep, sorry! If I remember, they were too long to fit both side by side but I was able to fit one 40mm and one Fat 50 can side by side without a problem. I think the height of the 20mm can would be okay, but I would be more concerned with the width. It's 8.25" wide vs 6" wide for the 40mm. Just be sure to measure how much space you have from 14.5" up on the back seat to the closed tailgate.

Did you ever install it? What do you think?

I did! I liked it and actually bought a second one for the other side. I don't keep them on all the time though, it gets in the way of the dogs being able to see out the sides. :)
