What did you pay for your TJ?

Paid $15,000 for my '98 sport in '01. Had 35K miles, now at 97k.

Dumped about $6000 in driveline upgrades and skids.
$4000 in an engine stroker build.
$8000 so far in a total restoration.

Lifetime cost I'm about $33,000 into this heep and it's still in pieces. Expect a few thousand more before it's done.
So I will in essence have spent new JL money on a basically all new TJ. Call me crazy 🤪

$18k seven years ago for my 05. It’s had 30k miles, not a scratch or dent on it and looked like it lived in a garage or showroom floor. Not sure it had ever been drove in the rain. It still had every paper sticker stuck on frame, driveshafts and other places underneath. I daily drove it 3 years and had a dealership offer me 17k for it. Doubt I ever get rid of it. No way I could find or afford to buy another in its condition.

that's not the original hard top for an 05, did you get a soft top too? the top is 02 or older.

I Was wondering about the top, as it doesn't fit 100% / closing the pass door the rubbers pinch & don't seal correctly / the rear defrost & wiper are not hooked into anything & it bangs around a little on rough terrain, but it's better then nothing i guess ?? Yes it came with brand new bestop soft top still in the box unused. Which is more desirable ? Older like the one I have ? or newer / maybe someone would want to swap ?

The older style top has cab vents on the rear pillars, 03 and up have a tailgate vent. I dont think there is much difference in quality but the older style vents do get loose and fall out.

Bought my 2004 X with 99K miles for $8900. Clean some surface rust on frame. Can probably get about 10 for her now. Wish I would have held out for a Sport, Sahara or Rubi. Once I get the RMS leak fixed I think I will put her up for sale and look for another TJ.

$9500 for my 2004 TJ-X in December 2016, 119k with no rust which was a big factor for me given where I live, looked at a lotta shit boxes before finding this one. It already had some key modifications I would've done anyway so that was also a plus, that being a 3 inch lift & 33 inch tires. I of course have gone on to shit it up pretty good since
