What was your first car and in what year?

Here’s a Commando spotted in Port Clyde, ME five years ago. If I’m not mistaken, Danny Thomas was AMCs spokesman for the Commando.

1974, 16 yrs. old. A friends stoner brother gave me his 1953 Ford Ranch Wagon (aka the grey bomb) because he couldn't keep it running. I rebuilt the single barrel Holly carb. and found a rear brake drum and wheel cylinder at a junk yard. I kept it long enough to get a clear title and pink slip (about a month) and sold it to my Dads work buddy for $50. I already had a Suzuki TS 185 Enduro that I rode to school and parties.

1988 Mazda B2200. Got it in late 95, just before I turned 16 in early 96.

Regular cab, 2wd, manual transmission, no power windows, no power doors/locks, and no power steering. No cup holders either. That’ll teach you how to drive! Pepsi between my legs while shifting gears and hoping not to spill it.

My first car was an 86 Monte Carlo SS I bought in 2007. It had a mild 350 in it with all the generic bolt on stuff.

Was a pretty fun car.

My first car was a hand-me-down 1985 Volvo sedan that was either a 740 or 760 with a turbo. It was a pretty damn nice first car, even though it was almost as old as I was at the time. I just wish I appreciated it more at the time and took better care of it.

1965 Ford Mustang, 289 v8. Got her in 1989 and poured ever penny I made into her. After graduating High School my Uncle drove her back to PA to pull and rebuild the transmission. Long story short worked a double at the steel mill, hit his favorite watering hole after work and wrapped her around a telephone pole. Alls I have left is the grill pony hanging in the garage with all my Jeep stuff.

That's pretty as hell, but I'm damn glad that wasn't my first car. I probably wouldn't have survived to graduate high school if it was, haha.

A black 1960 V8 Studebaker Lark VIII. Nice old ride, wish it had been a 2 door or ragtop.

My second car was a tan '60 Lark VIII 2 door. V8, 3 on the tree with overdrive. I traded my first ('62 Dodge Dart that I never did get running) and $20 for it around 1973. No title, but I just drove on the old country back roads (and through the woods) for a couple of years until I quit high school and joined the Navy. While I was in bootcamp, my mom gave it to her uncle who had a small junkyard. The old Studebaker was still there about 20 years ago after I retired from the Navy.

Fiat spider 124. Bought 1977, Pretty reliable. Drove it till the back seat was filled with snow from the missing rear window. Some guy pucked in the back onto the snow. Glad the heater wasn't that strong.
