The compass/temp function on my mirror basically displays hieroglyphics. See attached pic.

I've went through several threads here on the darn mirrors and I'm starting to think that my 221 didn't leave the factory in anything Jeep. There's an extra wire run that comes out of the case next to the plug that has been clipped off sometime before I got the LJ. (other attached pic)

So, my main question is anyone know which color wire goes to what on the stock harness on the stock mirror? I'm not above rewiring the thing.

Not sure about this particular problem but,

In my Tacoma and previous gentek mirror, both had surface mount resistors loosen up off of the PC board. Basically, they unsolder themselves because they undersized and get too hot. It's really hard to see without a good magnifying glass and knowing what to look for. This causes weird things, like you're seeing.

If I were you, I'd take it apart and touch some solder and heat to each of the little black surface-mounted things.

Where does this "cable" go to? It's cut on mine.

The other plug is pretty much identical to mine except pink wire has faded to almost white.

I'll keep that in mind, although my soldering can be somewhat hit or mess. I do better welding, lol.

Mine doesn't have that big box thing where it mounts to the windshield. I'm starting to think that I need to just break out the check book and get a new aftermarket one. And my inner tightwad is screaming at that idea.

There "might" be a few left in the junkyards, GM vehicles if I recall. (Maybe others)
